Shift knobs can be very handy. I use this one to keep track of which knob I'm using by feel.If there IS one of those spouts around here it will be a surprise. But I do have tools going back three generations. Dad even "modified" one of his dad's wood planes:

I got a wood shift knob for the MGB, left the original in his garage. That had to have been 1969 or '70.
