Griots Garage "starter kit" - $15

Just saw this deal - Amazon has Griot's Garage "Starter Car Care Kit" #11131 for $15. It's normally $59 from Griot's direct. Shipping is free if your order is $25 or more (shop around on Amazon).

The kit includes:

[*]Car Wash, 16 Ounces[*]Wheel Cleaner, 35 Ounces[*]Paint Cleaning Clay, 8 Ounces[*]Speed Shine®, 35 Ounces[*]Best of Show Wax®, 16 Ounces[*]Vinyl and Rubber Dressing, 8 Ounces[*]Finest Sprayer[*]Foaming Finest Sprayer[/list]

Amazon says it's going to be 2-3 weeks for delivery. We'll see. I had something on my "wish list" that I wanted to combine with something else for free shipping anyway

Update: Well that went quick - all gone but check the link periodically, they might be back

Re: Griots Garage "starter kit" - $15

I now use their products exclusively and I've used everything made for car care over the years. This stuff just flat out works as advertised.

Re: Griots Garage "starter kit" - $15

I pretty much stick with whatever works  I've settled on a lot of Pinnacle and Wolfgang products, and one S100 product for most things. Mothers Showtime detailing spray has always been great (I buy it by the gallon), Zaino Z6 is slightly better.

I'm always open to other quality stuff is out there though.

The "starter kit" is available for order again but for Griot's regular $59 price (which in itself is supposedly a decent deal). I'm not sure if the $15 deal I had was a complete mistake or not - but they accepted the order, and I got free shipping on my other items.

Re: Griots Garage "starter kit" - $15

I just ordered a bunch more Griot stuff and I really love it. I've detailed enough cars in my life professionally to know good products and these are as good as the owner says they are. Not cheap, but good, as in really good.

I've polished three cars with the #3 polish and the bottle is only down about one full inch. The Carnuba wax smells so good, it's actually fun to wax the car after polishing it. You don't need much so in the long run, it is actually cheaper. And the spray on wax is better than Mothers and Meguiar. Up until this time, those are all I would use.

Re: Griots Garage "starter kit" - $15

If anyone has been wondering about using the Griot orbital, but waiting for a good deal, check Amazon's automotive deals page - until July 15th they have the orbital kit (with clay, speed shine, polish and wax, as well as the orbital polisher) for $120, with free shipping. That is $80 off and less than the polisher alone usually costs! They also have the starter kit mentioned earlier on sale.

Hope that helps someone!
Cheers
Alistair

The TR7 I'm working on is a Spider with original paint. After comments about the Griot's stuff I ordered a bunch of it. I just need to get the fuel pump/filter into the car first so I can drive it from the staging area around to the garage.

I'll update as I go.

Re: Griots Garage "starter kit" - $15

FYI - I've been using their "speed shine" and it's fantastic. Just ordered another bottle. Zano was my favorite detailing spray, followed by Mother's - but Griots is (I think) better than both. Just my impression after the first bottle

Re: Griots Garage "starter kit" - $15

Late update: just finished polishing up the Miata a little bit at a time. This time I finally put some more of that $15 kit to use.

I skipped the clay bar, just didn't have time to deal with it so I went over each panel with either P21 paint cleanser or Mothers Pre-Wax Cleaner. I'm hot and cold with the P21, it always seems abnormally hard to get off the paint.

Next, went over the trunk and tops of the rear fenders with Pinnacle Advanced Finishing Polish using a fine pad on the polisher. Really didn't hit it too hard, just wanted to get some light marks off.

Then it got a coat of Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant. Someone recommended it a couple of years ago and it's amazing. Applied with a red foam pad on the polisher, a small dab goes a long way. It's expensive but it lasts. After setting up for 20 minutes or so it's an effortless wipe-off and looks spectacular.

Finally time to dig into my bargain Griots box. The next day I unsealed the Griots Best of Show Wax and applied it s... Souveran Paste. That wax is like magic...expensive, but like magic.

Bottom line: the Griots looked great and was easy to use except on the hood for some reason. The bottle I have runs something like $20 so my $15 box was indeed a bargain!

Since getting that box I've also tried Griots Long Lasting Tire Dressing. It's heavy but not gooey, shiny but not that gross drippy looking junk (apparently it can be if you add multiple-coats), and lasts reasonably long.

My bottle of Griots Speed Shine detailing spray was almost gone so I got a refill. It's still the best I've used but Zano is probably right along next to it. Both work amazingly well on the MGB and the Miata - both dark paints show streaks and flaw horribly but Griots handles it well.

Re: Griots Garage "starter kit" - $15

I use Griot's for my Jag, and my mom uses it for her '12 Fiat 500C.

The wax works wonders, I don't even need to polish the chrome with Pig Snot afterwards (I still polish the chrome occasionally however). Also use Griot's wash, and I just used the tire polish for the first time this weekend. The tire dressing makes the tires look better than when I bought them.

My mom uses the Speed Shine frequently and keeps her Fiat looking new with it, and also uses the clay bar. I haven't got into either, because I would be there forever with the HMS Victory.

We get Griot's from the website, because the nearest place that sells it is a Chevy dealer 50 minutes away. I don't like driving that far for car wash, and I cringe when I see all the American cars.

Doesn't Paul Massey have it at any place besides Wickford? Where are you in RI? I'm in Seekonk.

Re: Griots Garage "starter kit" - $15

Griots is fantastic stuff, but what even makes it better is living just 10 miles from their flagship retail store in Tacoma, WA!!! My MGA is currently on their showroom floor after they photographed it for their catalog cover, look for it on the cover of their Holiday catalog....

Johnny, that is great. Did they deatil it for you too??

Re: Griots Garage "starter kit" - $15

No detailing, I asked, but they said all my car needed was some speed shine and reminded me that the pictures are digital so blemishes can be fixed, LOL. But they did give me a $100 gift certificate and are going to make a blow up poster of the cover shot for me.
