Grille Replacement

Does anyone know if the vertical style grille from a Mark 2 will fit into the opening of a Mark 1 (horizontal style grille) without any body work?

It will fit, with the shell Mk2/3, or with early surround parts (see photo). image.jpg

British Recovery, so the grille vertical insert fits right behind the old style lips? That's exactly what I was hoping for.

Once upon a time, I was told by a restorer that the upper lip on the grill opening of the MK II shroud is slightly different. I recall him saying the depth of the upper flange was a bit deeper than that of the earlier 100/6 and 3000 shrouds.
