Grill slat fit

64bj8 II. Hello all. I'm installing my grill and wondering how much space is there suppose to be between the grill slats and the grill surround.

My Grill Slats sit further back from the Grill Surround approximately 1/2 inch at the right and left corners. The slats touch at the center of the grill, top and bottom and fit very close as it continues around the Grill Surround radius but then the gap increases as it gets towards the corner portion.

Seems the two pieces, grill slats and surround don't share the same curve. I just can't seem to get the slats to fit close all the way around. Is this common? Roger

FWIW, My ph1 BJ8 grill slats fit fairly even & tight at the top, about 1/8 inch apart. But at the bottom, it's 1/8 in the center and about 1/2 inch separation at both ends. Frankly, unless you get up real close, I don't notice it. On mine you see the reflection of the grill slats in the inner part of the surround as I have not painted that inner one inch or so the light grey color for concours correctness. Not sure why that was ever done, for that matter.
Your engine bay is absolutely beautiful, by the way.

Hi Shorn, I think they painted the inner one inch so as not to give a reflection of the slats there. Maybe also to hide the dimples the spot welds make in that area? Thank you for your kind words. I spent a lot of time here on BCF asking about the small details in the engine compartment. One of the reasons it look so nice, because of the love here. Cheers, Roger
