Hi - I came across the BCF website looking for an explanation as to why my TR3A had an intentionally blocked off overflow pipe on the header tank of the radiator. I found the answer in minutes (including a timely warning re potential damage to the block from such a modification). I'm very grateful for that and more than impressed by the myriad of other info on here - a real treasure trove! Many thanks to Basil and the team behind it.
I bought my first MG (a 1977 MG Midget rubber bumper, purchased for GBP1450) in 1990. That set me on a path that basically involved buying new classics instead of making pension payments or buying modern cars for the last 32 years. It's a strategy which I have never looked back on. I now have a fairly full set of the 1950s "affordable" British sportscars - 1954 Austin Healey 100 BN1, 1954 Jaguar XK120 (the car which was raced by Dennis Sullivan on the inaugural day of racing at Laguna Seca, back on 9 November 1957), 1956 MGA Roadster, 1958 MGA Twin Cam and a 1958 Triumph TR3A with factory steel hardtop - the winter car! I am taking most of these cars to Goodwood for a day on the track on Wednesday 20 July 2022 - anyone on this forum is invited to come along to chat and watch the action (there is no charge, but we are asking people to consider donating to a Ukrainian humanitarian charity). There will also be some American V8's on track including, hopefully, a running replica of "Le Monstre" - the 1954 special bodied Cadillac that competed at Le Mans in 1954, which will be fresh back from attempting to complete the Le Mans Classic 24hr at the end of June. There will also be a prototype electric Citroen DS Decapotable EV (aka Droptop), marking the relaunch of the Henri Chapron car company of Paris as a 21st century classic EV coachbuilder, a newly built Ford GT40 EV(!!!) and various EV motorbikes, but I am digressing off-topic...Do come along for a fun day.
Here are a trio of my cars last week on a classic "British Weather Day". I look forward to swapping notes on all the various trials, trails and tales of classic British motoring. I also thought I'd add a pic of the Jubilee celebrations this last weekend, just for an extra-British greeting!
All the best
