Great Weather and a Great Drive to work!

With temperatures in the 80's, sunny and low humidity - the Bugeye went to work today, roundtrip of about 70 miles.

Observations:

-The slow lane isn't bad - more of the time you keep pace with the fast lane, catching up at lights and such.
-SUV's are much bigger in a BE --heck, Toyota Corollas look large.
-Sure puts a smile on your face.

As if I needed a reminder - these little cars are fun!

Did the same thing myself today. I took it out to lunch as well. I can't help but get amused at the people who walk by it and look it over. That is how I entertain myself while I eat. I had one lady ask it it was an automatic. I thought to myself, that's not the only thing that prevents the average driver today from owning these cars. There's just something about the sounds, smells, and simplicity that makes it worth the problems. My MGB seems complicated compared to my Sprite, but they both deliver the same feelings of old fashioned no frills driving.

agreed...gives you a whole different perspective on the daily commute.

Love is a Bugeye.

I would love to be able to drive my Sprite, but it is still a long way from being roadworthy. Plus we had a frost last night. In late May. What the f...

I know how you feel, I had a great weekend driving my sprite, but since it's out of state, I don't get to drive it as much as I'd like.

I envy all of you that can drive your cars during this great weather. My car is about 60% ready and I think it'll be done in early July - just in time for the mid-90's in Tennessee.

Rainy in KC. But I'm happy you all are having a good time in your cars! I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed my BE inall the different forms through the yrs. Well, maybe I can next yr at the lake, cheers.

It was a great day for a drive here in New England. Today I had an appointment in Boston which is about three hours from me. I drove there and back in my MGB! LOL! I had a blast but 6+ hours in a LBC can be pretty tiring! Good news is that I averaged 30+ MPG. My Land Rover gets 13.

Went out to the garage this morning to warm up the midget for my drive to work and opened the doors to RAIN...drat. Had to take the Suburban. (I know I can drive it in the rain, but what fun is it with the top up?) Maybe tomorrow.

If it's raining tomorrow put the car in the Suburban /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Now I know that I'll probably start a war here, but that is exactly why my daily driver is a new Mini. I don't mind rainy or cold days as long as I can drive the Mini. Forget the whole is it really British or just a toy BMW, but it delivers the most smiles of anything next to the old LBCs. I had much rather drive it than than an SUV. Which is very handy too at times, but boring. OK there I said it. I can take the heat. Go ahead and tell me what you're thinking. The fact is, it has revived the fun small car and we need more of that in this country.

Aye, we need more fun cars and less cookie cutter ones for sure.

If I could afford two car payments a new Mini convertable would be at the top of my list. I keep the suburban so I have something to haul the trailer with (not to mention the kids, dog, plywood, tillers.....) At $4 or more a gallon....the suburban will be sitting a lot more I assure you.

Steve, I have to say I'm sympathetic to your comments. I've been toying with the idea of buying a <shame_on_me> Mazda Miata </shame_on_me> for some time now. I love my BE, but I do need something reliable and reasonably modern to get to client visits and such. the Miata, at least originally, was built on the same formula as the British cars of the 60s; I don't know if the modern ones still are--with a 160+ HP engine, I suspect not.

The BUgeye's axle breaking on the way home from the dentist in February clarified that whole issue for me. So, what to do? Another Corolla? Or something a bit more fun? It's a compromise, for sure, but that's life--full of dilemmas and compromises.

Of course, I'm open to other suggestions. I suspect a lot of you have faced the same quandary.

And, almost forgot to say, got the BE out for a long drive over the weekend. Several comments from people in other cars--the best was, "Hey, is that a FIAT?"

I agree... I just wish they made a mini-sized mini!! The new Mini is actually larger than my VW Golf. My best friend's new Smart Car convertible is the closest thing to fun, small & affordable top-down motoring that I've enjoyed recently...

If it rains you can still drive the Midget: go faster, stay drier...

Yup-yup. After 40 MPH the rain just passes right over the windscreen. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

It puts me in a much better mood when I can drive mine to work. I always leave early and take the longest, most scenic roads availible! Not so in the "Company" car.05 Crown Vic!
