Dale. I am so pleased for you. I really hope you have a long period of trouble-free motoring now. I am looking forward to seeing the pictures.
That Dave is a real hero. I lost track of where he came from. Is he a Forum member who offered to fly out and give you a hand? What a guy. Give him a double whisky from me!

Re: Great news from Puerto Rico!!! Updated 4:30PM

An awesome day today with no blood shed by David
or Dale. The Crypt Car completely overwelmed with
no energy left after it's futile attempt to squash
David yesterday.

Almost 20 miles driven since yesterday without
a breakdown. A record of sorts.

Accomplished today:
Rear brake cylinders replaced
Brakes bled
Hand brake made functional
Trip to lift rental shop
Jap brake master cylinder replaced with TR6 unit
Brakes bled
Oil change after 40 miles driven.

Smooth clutch and firm brakes now.

Tomorrow AM - fine tune engine, bolt in passenger seat
and tranny cover, floor mats, video camera on stand by-

David and Dale take Crypty down the beach highway
for a "Thru Crypty's Windshield" video. Wendy follows
in the chase car. Next stop El Caracol beach bar for
tall cold ones and a toast to good friends.

I know we will have Crypty's back deck area filled to
overflowing with all our BCF friends who have made this
beach run possible. An international joint effort to
get one single car operational. Everyone should take great
pride in this success story.

Thanks you one and ALL. Dale and Wendy

Re: Great news from Puerto Rico!!! Updated 4:30PM

there's the answer about the almost crush mechanic.

With only 1/2 inch to go, Crytpy jerks sideways, knocks
over David's jack and drops directly onto David's head andupper body. The hydraulic jack takes a glancing blow
and also folds over sideways as David slithers out under
the falling rear bumper bruised but nothing crushed.

Then a trip to a beach bar for double shot rums to calm everyone nerves.

Dale,
I hope someone compiles all of this into a book, it would make a great adventure story.
While you are at the beach, could you snap a few pictures of some of the beach "scenery" you have spoken of. Many of us would like that almost as much as car pictures. Not too much scenery in bikinis here in Colorado.

Looks like it's time for the big Ho`olaule`a over there. After all the mechanical horror stories, the car really looks good, Dale...great shade of red. You and Dave should consider going into the LBC repair business; there seems to be a shortage of competent (and honest) shops.

Holy crap! Scary, indeed!

Hey Dale!! Great progress to date. One last thing while you're having Dave do some final tuning. Everyone remember the distributor timing and alignment issue? Now, how could we all forget that saga????

Anyhow, have Dave set that baby in there correctly, once and for all and get a lesson in the proper setting of ignition timing with light from a pro. Then the advance unit won't be hitting the block. Mine (on high test gas) likes 14-16 BTDC at idle, your mileage may vary.

Keep us posted.....

Re: Great news from Puerto Rico!!! Updated 4:30PM

Paul-

Not forgotten at all. Discussed at length this
afternoon.

Crypty timing presently at 0 TDC, remember?
Main notch of two timing marks.

Where should it be set for a stock everything
engine?

BTW: Caught a real break on the lift rental.
$30 for our afternoon use; a buddy of mine.

Dale:

It should be set at about 12 to start. If you car can run without pinging and clattering at 14-16, great. If not, there is a world of difference in power between 0 and 12, which you will soon see after Dave tweaks it in.

Then you'll see how much fun these cars really can be to drive.

I'll be in the office most of the day tomorrow looking for updates. I'll also email a spec sheet to you.

Good luck and keep up the great work!

Well done Tinster! You are on a roll......
Now just see if you can find a 1/2 decent beach to photograph. No Photoshop touchups!!

Once Dale sees the various proceedures carried out, Crypty is gonna be a lot less 'interesting' methinks. Dave is likely thoroughly explaning all he does. Most architects I know are "lobe switchers" so Dale is as much an engineer as an artist: A Quick Study.

Tho that scissors jack incident has me kinda concerned... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Dave's "teaching him to fish" rather than handing him one! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Hmmm.... Very good analysis Doc.

Hey Dale now that you've (collectively) tamed this beast I heard that some one on the other side of the island has a "pristine" LBC fixer upper for sale for you to work on....
Naw forget it, Wendy would shoot you.
Hats off to her for her patience.
Has she been given a ride yet?
