Great news for dented cars

Having received a number of less than encouraging comments about painteless ding repair when it comes to E-types, I was skeptical but hopeful that this technique would clean up my badly dinged OTS doors and fenders. I am pleased to say that the technique works and it works well. All but a scant few tiny dings were removed (we counted a total of 46 dings on the car). By doing this I have saved myself thousands in body and paint work next year. Of course the technician is the key. Many wouldn't touch the car but one brave independent vendor did and he was justly rewarded.
I wanted to share this news in case any of you are curious as to whether a S1 E-type can be done well.......

Indeed. He was scared that the leverege against the driver's side window would break the glass. In order to effectively push the ding out they need to gain a lever. Since almost all of the dings were on the door it was hairy. But no damage was done and all but a couple of dings were removed. A very cool technique actually. Obviously the key to this is an experienced technician with patience and brass balls. It doesn't work well if there is bondo under the paint as the bondo tends to lift and crack the paint. I had a bit of the stuff in one spot and you can see very tiny crack lines where the ding was pushed out.

As I had posted before, I had dents taken out with this method and will give my car to anyone who can tell where the dents had been!!

My local club (www.vsccc.ca) there is a guy who owns a Mercedes Gullwing that got caught in a hailstorm. The guy who did the repair came and did a presentation. He admited to being "very nervous". But the result was amazing.
 
Question about PDR and E type bonnets

I have a small blister in the middle of my '62 bonnet that was made by jacking the engine up slightly without raising the bonnet first, so the engine raised ever so slightly into the bonnet, ..(Don't ask! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif At the time I must have been having a brain fart! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif) I had a Ding Doctor (PDR expert) to come out and he did a couple of the dings but said he couldn't leverage that specific larger one enough to do anything for it..and he felt so bad that he left without charging me anything. Any suggestions? I was wondering if I removed the bonnet if they could get it out. Any thoughts? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif Haven't tried any of these 'specialists' since I moved back east.

I use this 1-800 dent wiz quite often on my daily drivers that I use into manhattan. Not exactly a Jaguar but it works great all the same.

Thanks for the heads up that it worked on such a vintage automobile.

I had a "Ding Guy" who took a similar dent out of my XJ-S bonnet.
Unfortunately, I don't think he would "Come to you" out by the peaches.

If the bonnet is off the car, a good tech should be able to find a way to leverage off of something, even a wall in the garage, and work the dent that way. Or, if you can rig up something that can span the width of the car like a sawhorse kind of arrangement - a few assembled 2x4s would work, and find a way to solidly secure them to the floor of the garage, a good tech should be able to leverage off the wood. That should be easier than removing the bonnet.

Hadn't thought of that..you all have rejuvenated my interest in getting this blemish removed. (My car is a pretty clean representation of the marque, and I have sort of used the excuse that it is her 'beauty mark'. But who am I kidding (?) perfection would be sweet!)
