Hi Guys,

Quick question regarding the Grease Zerk fittings on a TR3A. Just curious, are there special threads on these or are they something that I can pick up at my local parts store.

Cheers,
M. Pied Lourd

I thought trunnions might be BSP - not so?

Well, I didn't try to check the thread; just screwed a 1/4-28 zerk in. Worked fine.

But the smallest BSP I have listed is 1/8", and they are definitely smaller than that.

Thanks Guys, will pick some up on my way home.

Cheers,

Since we're on the subject, I have zerk fittings on the u-joints in my rear axle shafts. However, the connector on my grease gun is just "that much" to big to get it in b/t the flanges and connected to the zerk. Any tips or tricks to doing this? I think I even tried from the top where is more clearance but, still no go.

Bob

Maybe shop around for a slimmer coupler?

Hiya Skip,

Coming along well.

By the end of the weekend, should have the rear axle/suspension back on the car. Just about to head out to the garage for a couple of hours....

Had one of those nights last night where everything seemed to be fighting me as far as re-assembly was concerned. Hope that it goes better this evening

I will post some pics maybe on Sunday when I get a little farther on.

Cheers,

As Randall mentioned in the 2nd post, the propshaft U-joints have a long zerk for this very reason, perhaps that is what you need back there. I have never seen them available but haven't really looked as my U-Joints came with them on there.

Alternately, I have heard of some who ground a bit off 2 sides of the coupler to fit.

Another alternative -- I have found zerks at Ace Hardware which, though not as long as the ones that came with, say, Hardy Spicer UJs, are still quite a bit longer than the usual and may be enough to work for you.

Finally (I don't know IRSs) if you can get the suspension to where the joint is fairly flexed you may have enough clearance on the side that is flexed more open.
