As I am about to replace one hub, I'd like to replace the grease on all of them. What is the consensus for the best brand and type to use on the hubs that will not grease the spokes? I've been using Pep Boys axle grease for 30 years (can goes a long way) but it migrates and is messy.

Leave the grease for bearings TH and get some "Coppa Slip" anti seize compound and treat the splined hubs to a good dose.--- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif-Keoke
 
I have always used Kopr-Shield, an electrical product made by Thomas & Betts. Kopr-Shield is comparable to Nevr-Sieze, but is a little cleaner in use. In fact, it's rare that a threaded fastener of any type goes on any of my cars without a little dab of Kopr-Shield (available at electrical supply houses, maybe even in the electrical department of Home Depot).

I once had a guy that I worked with at Austin-Healey West, who was a British-Leyland apprenticed mechanic, tell me that was what they put on the wire wheel splines when the cars were new...
 
Smear some RTV around the inside of the hub where the ends of the spokes are. That's what they did to mine at Hendrix WW when they were mounting my new tires + tubes. That should keep anything that you use from leaking out on to the spokes.

I would go with Greased Lightnin' (opps, that's the musical answer /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif ). Actually I use Permatex Anti-Seize on the splines because it is easy to find in the local auto parts store and it seems to work just fine. On the plus side it is silver in color which matches the silver of the wheels. I agree with ED on using something to seal the inside of all the spokes in the hub area.

Well if you use Copaslip it will not sling out on the spokes and its readily available from Moss.- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif--Keoke

I also seal the spokes inside the hub as this keeps the acid and water from being trapped in side the hub when cleaning the wheels on the car.
