So, Jerri & I visited my 20-month old grandson y'day to deliver our Valentine's gifts (Jerry always takes books, I take boy toys!)...I had stopped in a real neat toy shop here in town & found a beautiful metal jack-in-the-box that has a fluffy bear who pops up when the handle is cranked & the music plays.

Jerri thought it would be too "low tech" in the modern toy world....well, Will fell in love with it & made everybody (me, Jerri, his mom & dad) play with it...he just laughed so hard everytime the bear popped up.....talked w/daughter this morning & he was playing with it....when he got on the phone with me he kept saying "T's bear"...I know he calls me "T" but couldn't figure out the 'bear' part until my daughter told me he calls the jack-in-the-box "T's bear"!

Amazing, those simple little boxes are still able to captivate children's hearts.

Brain food, Tony. Keep him "fed"! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Some toys are timeless. The Jack-In-The-Box is one of them. Everytime a young 'un sees that thing pop up, it's a new surprise all over again. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'm betting that kids learn a *lot* more from things that have no buttons.

Tony....heck I still laugh when I see it pop out...
bought my my first born one when he was a year old and it's still working, no batteries, no electronics, just a spring, which by the way was some pretty major technology in it's day!!!!!!!<chuckle>

Excellent!

As you may know, my first grandchild is only about 3 weeks old, so she's not ready for a jack-in-the-box quite yet.

Really looking forward to this type of stuff as she gets older! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Nial...nothing wrong with getting stuff early...you know it's all gotta be tested out!!!
