TR6 Grab Bar on a TR6

Has anyone ever installed a Grab Bar on the passenger side of the dash board? I was thinking of fabricating a nice bar to bolt through the dash, on level with t he bottom of the cubby door, so that the door would open and rest on the bar. I would pad and cover it with a stitched leather steering wheel cover like the one I have covering my factory-style steering wheel. Many a passenger (mostly my wife) has complained of nothing to hold on to when I get spirited with the corners. I realize that the safety concerns of a "kill bar" for collision purposes would be there, but proper padding would make it no more lethal than the "padded" dash.

There are a few concerns. One is the appearance. Next is the strength of the dash. I think your passengers would use it not only to steady themselves. They will want to use it to pull themselves out of their seat when they exit.
As for safety, it depends on how far it protrudes into the passenger compartment. If the passenger is likely to strike it first during an accident. A small bar rigidly mounted will concentrate a lot of energy in a small area of their body.

how about something like on a TR4? could the lower right grab handle/dash pad from a TR4 be used? the dashes are very similar

Neat idea Bill. Post some pics if and when you complete the project. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
