It is ALWAYS worse than you'd think.

Here is what is left from the original metal. The passenger side has rot through on the top bead as well.

Where did you get them dipped? I mean what kind of place do I look for in the yellow pages to find someone that will do that? And how much are we talking?

I got it done at Strip Clean in Santa Ana. I only paid $75 per fender, but that was cheaper than usual. It is normally $125+ each.

Here is a link to a HotRod article on other stripping options including a mention of Strip Clean. (https://www.hotrod.com/howto/hdrp_0606_paint_stripping_basics_tips/strip_or_dip.html)

Looks to me like chemical stripping ala Redi Strip. They have a few franchises around the country. Look under "paint stripping".

So check me on this guys;

I have never made a patch panel and tried doing it manually without too much luck.

I was thinking that I could take the replacement metal rough it into shape using a TR6 fiberglass fender packed with sand (so it doesn't collapse) as a template.

Is there a better way for a novice to do it?
