Got the TR out Today

Weather was finally decent (about 60 degrees - it's been -
- freezing here at night - 30 degrees).
Anyway,went to start the TR6 (74-1/2),but the battery
(Optima),was run down.So after charging it for awhile,got
it started,& went for a drive.Enjoyed it.
The moral of the story is.......Make sure your battery's charged ahead of time,if you haven't driven for awhile.

i took my tr7 fhc out today. first time since last may. pump jockey wanted me to open up the trunk so he could see the engine. he must have been confused with a fiat x1/9!?

I drove the green TR3 down to my buddy's shop today -- which is the first time the car has been over 15mph in ten years! They're going to bleed the brakes and clutch up on the rack (yup, I'm getting lazy!) Plus just inspect my work. (A second set of eyes and ears is important.)

If my 6 was nicer, I probably would be driving it as much as I do, but it's been taking me to work most every day this winter here in Massachusetts. (We've also had a pretty easy winter so far)

I actually once saw a TR running with chains. Man, that was brutal! Not sure how he got those things on. MG owners would probably put them on the front tyres.

yikes... chains on a TR3. One failed tiedown away from folding your rear fender underneath all the way back to the tail lights.

<*shudder*>

I pulled my TR3 out of the garage only once in 6 inches of fresh snow. I pulled out of the alley and gunned it to get over the hump of the road I was turning into, immediately swapped ends in the middle of the street, and since I was now pointing directly back in the direction I came I pulled it right into the garage and fired up dad's TD.

Those pictures of TR3's in the Alpine Rally just make me shake my head.

There's a great article in one of the old magazines (R+T I think) about taking a TR3 skiing. The big thing with a TR3 is having good snow tires.

Actually...that's ANY car...a good set of snow tires is better than the benefit from 4WD.

i drove my tr7 dhc over the siskyous while it was snowing three winters ago. It actually did quite well for being invisible to other cars (white colored car).

I've been driving my '80 TR-7 Spider around this Maine island town this winter, but the conditions aren't taxing. For parts of two winters prior, I used my TR-7 as a daily car off island, too. Good snow tires and great balance made it a fine winter car. The TR-7 has a real, i.e., effective, heater, so it was a fine winter car. My drive last winter included a 3 hour weekly trip each way to my work site, in a very rural area. The TR-7 never let me down. Whenever something needed repair, it always seemed to happen during the week instead! One trip was made with a crapped out distributor car, and without failure.

In decades past, when I lived and worked in Vermont and Maine, my '63 Spitfire, '63 MGB, '72 MG Midget, '78 Spitfire and '78 MGB, were year-round cars, complete with ski racks and snow tires. They had to start and run every day. Occasionally there was great drama around starting or running, but you know they always made it.

One last dig for all those in northern climates.

Took the TR4 out for a spin today in Houston, temp was 60-70, blue skies, drove all over the place and had a great time.

Then about 1 mile from my place while I had her opened up I heard one miss, and suddenly no more power. Engine dead, hood up. Check gas, fine. Check ignition, uh oh. No spark. Call flat bed tow. 1 hour later and 60 bucks poorer, TR safe in the garage. Will save diagnosing the problem for a rainy day!
