Got some bad family news tonight

Just got word tonight that the father of one of my closest friends, who was practically a second father to me growing up, has been diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer.

This sucks. Actually, that's not the words I used, but this is a family-friendly site.

He's fairly young, only in his mid 60s. Not how I had figured things to go at all. They've got good doctors, but the odds are not good with this sort of diagnosis.

Did I mention that this sucks? I'm young enough (38) that I figured I had a while before I had to start dealing with this sort of thing.
 
Yes, it does suck. Cancer is an evil disease. My wife lost her mother to cancer when she (my wife) was only 12 years old, Will keep him in our thoughts and prayers.
 
Random events, Drew. Hateful as it is, we live in what can only be called a "chance environment".

There's nothing anyone can suggest or say to make that circumstance any better, but know we ALL understand and send him our love. You too, friend.

My father-in-law is a retired oncologist with the US Air Force. Don't know how he did it all those years.

Lost my aunt to breast cancer years ago. Just didn't figure I'd be seeing the friend's parents deal with it quite yet. Heck, figured it'd be my parents (who are older, my dad is 82).

Get used to it.

Cruel as that may seem.
 
Reality sucks sometimes. I am however very sorry for what you are having to feel.

It certainly is. I lost my mother to breast cancer when I was 17. She was 42. Just had a brother-in-law die from liver cancer at age 64. He was diagnosed less then a year ago. I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer a year ago. Fortunately, they caught it early and nothing got into the lymph system. I now live scan to scan. I don't know of anybody that hasn't been affected someway by this disease.

Cancer alley here. Two prayer lists at church, one just sick, the other cancer. Cancer one is twice as large.
 
Tough stuff, thanks all. Just hard to watch bad stuff happening to really good folks.

Doc: Now that is something with which I totally agree!!!

Sorry Drew, but something we all experience more often as we grow older is illness and death! Unfortunately, its a very natural thing!
 
Ditto what everyone else said, Our thoughts are with you.
This kind of news hits so close to home, especially when you are on that same buss!
 
That is rotten news. Very sorry for you and the family.
