Got ratted out last night...watch for me on COPS

So last night we had all the family over for my son's 7th birthday and all my nephews, brother-in-laws, etc. wanted to go for a ride in my TR6/M3. I jumped on the opportunity to tear around the neighborhood. Well, seven laps into it upon making the turn back to the house (power sliding) I notice a Police Cruiser with his lights on sitting out front amidst all the family. All I could think about was my wife telling me to take it easy and don't be obnoxious cause we're going to live here for a long time.

I immediately slowed down and eased in behind the officer's car on the street and shut her down. It was pretty obvious he was doing all he could to "play" the bad cop persona. I actually have a current tag hung on the car even without the body panels on, stock seat belts and also bolted on the rear tail lights. This was all done because I've actually driven it to work a few times (I know, dumb but it's only 2.7 miles away). He asked me for my insurance and registration which I obliged and all checked out O.K...

He then explained that a call was placed indicating someone was "street racing" in our neighborhood, speeding and out of control. Well, maybe, but certainly in control. Albeit a little on the edge. I apologized with my tail between my legs as he got out his summons book. He told me that he was going to have to impound the car due to "street racing" laws and went back to his car to call in a tow truck.

At this point I'm literally shixxing myself. After a very long 2-3 minutes he got back out and informed me that the tow company was jammed and "we'd have to drive it in" ourselves. That's when I knew he was messing with me. At that point he let it out that he showed up just as I was rolling out with my nephew's girlfriend and my wife asked him to scare the crap out of me. He actually did climb in to the car and we took a much more calm drive around the block. On one straight where there are no homes he asked me to get on it to which I obliged. I was in third doing about 40mph, rolled on the throttle until it starts hitting about 3750rpm when it launched. Not one more word was said, I think he may have needed a wardrobe change as well.

Needless to say it was quite a stressful event that ended a little better than assumed. His last words were: "When you get it all back together, I don't want to find you hanging around the High School Parking lots racing for lunch money. Those kids need nutrition at that age and I don't want a famine started in the Fast and Furious crowd."

Lesson Learned: One of the residents in my neighborhood just doesn't know how to have fun and they won't be invited to any more BBQ's.

Thats's an E36/M3 engine? S/50? S52? In a TR6?!

An M3 in a TR6? That thing ought to be illegal just sitting there.
Reminds me of one of my first drives in my Cobra. "Go-karting" is a time-honored tradition whereby Cobra builders take their bare chassis and engine out for a shakedown cruise sans body. So here we are, no body no lights, no registration, no insurance, no...well you get the picture. About a mile from the house, on a road we figured was safe we meet coming from the other direction one of Door County's finest. Figuring I was busted big time, I just stared straight ahead waiting for the lights to go on. As he passed, all I could see was his head shaking from side to side as he kept on going.
Some cops are just too cool.

Now, you see? That's what I have been trying to say for years. There are a lot of gearheads among the boys in blue, and as long as someone isn't posing a danger to either himself or anyone else, then there is no problem with turning a blind eye.

I used to be one of the cool ones /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I rode in Snakes "go kart" Whooooooooooooooo Haaaaaaaaaaa
The really cool part was when he said "wanna go for a ride?" and he had to go to the shop for the steering wheel.

Hey, at least it wasn't a vise grips.
