I was about half way through reroofing our back porch yesterday and did the unthinkable... I shot myself in the leg with the roofing gun! darn... just abov ethe knee, left leg. Went and got the tetnis booster and watched tv the rest of the evening. No swelling, heat or redness today. Maybe I got luckey.
Guess it's back on the roof then this morning with more respect for the gun...

Kerry- I was gonna post that exact point. I saw
an idiot nail his foot to the plywood floor
during rough framing.

I've done that a few times but the worst one was building my foyer closet. Shot a #10 right into my thumb. Pulled it out and wow did tha thurt. Went outside to sit on the lawn to calm down and Jeani said I turned white as a ghost. I bandaged it up and went back to work. Nail still doe not grown in correctly.

You'll be fine.
 
by friends son was using his foot to brace vertical studs to the floor plate while using a 10 penny nail gun, got the angle wrong and shot himself through the top nuckle of his big toe, three days goes by and "bang" same thing, vertualy the same hole in his foot, some people never learn. :wall:
 
I feel for you brother- last fall I was putting some vinyl half-round shingles on my house and I went 1/2" deep into my thigh with a utility knife which resulted in a small chunk of flesh going missing. Was briefly afraid I hit a blood vessel- I did not- nice scar, though.

Found out my (then) 10 year old son is pretty calm in what could have been a crisis. That's nice to know.
 
Ouch! Hope things heal OK. Could be worse though; my mom used to work in safety at the plant she worked at, and she knew of an individual who following the correct safety procedures, tied himself off with a safety line to dismantle the scaffolding he was assigned to dismantle, and promptly threw the piece he was tied to off. It was a long way down.
 
From the stupid files....
When I was framing the second story back wall of my garage I shot a 3-1/2" wire collated framing nail between the ring finger and pinky on my left hand. I was nailing the sill plate to the studs with the wall laying down, holding the stud with my left hand. I have the gun set so that I can hold the trigger down and it will fire when the safety on the barrel is pushed in. I just caught the edge of the sill plate with the safety but the barrel was above the sill plate. The nail shot in just under the skin and missed everything. I looked at it and decided it needed to come out before I went down the ladder so I began to pull. Did I mention they were wire collated? :cryin: Those darn wires acted like barbs on a fish hook. I'm glad the "I'm screwed" adrenalin had kicked in. I got it out, washed it off and took some antibiotics. I'm amazed I didn't hit any bones or anything else but flesh.
 
Chris, yeah collated coil nailer, 1 1/4 inch long. Just came down from roof. It's done, I'm whipped. Hope I didn't ever have to do it again. 31 squares, 12/12 pitch except the back porch. Thought I'd save the easy part for last, (no toe boards to work off of).
Yah, the little wires that hold the coil together made it hard to pull out. Took three tries.

Yes the safety nose piece was on and so was my finger to the trigger. Was much more careful today. Glad I'm done.
