Got me an early father's day present

I was at a car show and saw a four post lift for sale for under 2 grand. I called the wife to see if it was OK to buy it. She said "Go for it". I just finished putting it together, and lifted one of the TR8s up into the air. If everything seems fine in a couple of days, I'll move the BMW 2002 race car inside for the first time since I bought it three years ago. The main reason I wanted the lift was to gain another parking spot.

NICE!

Oh man - would that be awesome to have or what.

Very excited for you Todd - I know you'll make good use of it.

Todd-

I'm envious - what brand did you get and just how big a footprint does it take up? I've been thinking of one but I'm not sure if it will cram in the single bay area I'm working in.

The one I bought is a Prokar. It is rated at 7000# and it measures 170" X 112". It came with castors, a steel jacking tray, an oil drain bucket, and nice aluminum approach ramps. I also bought three drip trays that fit between the ramps, but plywood would have worked fine. I had to supply a bucket of hydraulic fluid.($35) It can be narrowed if you don't mind welding the center cross beams after you cut out the desired amount. After loading the TR8, I figure I can cut out a foot to 18" and still have enough room for a LBC. The ramps are 18" wide, and there is a 42 inch space between them. I went and picked mine up at a local distributor. There seems to be several companies selling very similar lifts all over the country.

I took my wife out for dinner the other night and casually mentioned a club member offered to sell me one of his TR6s for $1500. No response what-so-ever. At least she did leave me alone this entire weekend to work on the freespit.

"Honey, the prime rib looks good, or maybe the chicken vesuvio. I know a guy who is selling a TR6 for $1500. Do you think you'll have soup or salad?"

I have always taken the "no commment" or silence as a yes...

She didn't stab you with the steak knife. That's a resounding "go for it" in my book!

That price sounds pretty nice. Got a picture?

No pictures. I've saw the car a long time ago and a couple of times more recently from the street. I don't think its running right now. The guy has a TR8, two TR6s, two TR7s and maybe something else. He can't keep them all running. He also offered the TR8, but no price.

And he just bought his wife a Miata.

That's funny. Sorry, I should have mentioned that I was talking about the lift. I'd like to see the $2K lift, I don't need another TR6 right now. :nonod:

Hi Todd,

"Congrats" on the lift.

A friend of mine has two of them in his two car garage. One is a "Finger Lift" and the other a "Ramp Lift".

We do all sorts of nice things with those lifts: Change oil, detail work etc etc.

The nicest feature is that he gets 4 cars into a 2 bay garage.

He also has about 14ft. of ceiling height so that really helps as well.

Best Wishes and Fun with yours,

Russ

FYI the leagel Latin term is:"qui tacet consentire videtur" meaning "he who is silent is taken to agree".
