$600! To install the seat covers and foams from Moss. Holy cow. It was so shocking that even my 3 year old son puked in the shop lobby. (ok, ok, he was home sick anyway but....)

Tom -

Do them yourself. Not difficult at all.

Re: Got a quote on installing seat covers and foam

I think I paid $400 about 8 years ago, so $600 today doesn't seem to out of line. I did go to a shop that had recently someone else's seats that came out very well.

I did them myself the time before that. I consider my self pretty handy, but I was unhappy how they came out, so the $400 was worth it to me.

Re: Got a quote on installing seat covers and foam

I could not figure out how to fit my 4A covers and foams with correct shape. Too much spent already to mess it up. Found oldest interior guy in town(who does aircraft also as it turns out.) He said you got a 3,4 or a 6. I said let me go get um. $200. Well spent.

Re: Got a quote on installing seat covers and foam

Tom, send em to Richard

Re: Got a quote on installing seat covers and foam

I did my TR6 seats:
Foams, diaphrams, straps, covers and while they turned out very well, I can tell you that I spent every bit of $600 worth of labor to do it. In my oppinion the price is not bad.

Re: Got a quote on installing seat covers and foam

Hi guys - I'm floored. Wow, guess I was out in left field.

Re: Got a quote on installing seat covers and foam

Best thing about it is,If it don't look right you don't have to look in the mirror to tell em to fix it.
If he's done a few of these ask him if he has any recommendations on sculpting the foam a bit.

Re: Got a quote on installing seat covers and foam

It may pay to shop around.

Por exemplo, we have a couple of shops here in Tucson, one pricey and one quite reasonable.

The former does a lot of high-end stuff and would be the ones to go to for something complicated or creative but the latter is fine for something as basic as a repair or kit install.

Re: Got a quote on installing seat covers and foam

Tom,

Paid 150 per seat two years ago FWIW

Cheers,
David

Re: Got a quote on installing seat covers and foam

I was going to have mine professionally fitted, but $600. Maybe I will go visit the family in San Diego and have a shop in TJ do it. Nope, can't do that anymore, no telling what they would hide inside.

Darn, another thing I cannot tell the wife!

Re: Got a quote on installing seat covers and foam

I had my original covers removed and the seats repadded for $350 two years ago at a local shop in RI. My covers were in great shape, but the padding was getting weak and before I ruined a cover, I had them done.

Now they're sitting in my basement looking lonely.....

Re: Got a quote on installing seat covers and foam

I know, I know, EVERYTHING costs a LOT more than you ever thought it should. Sit, relax, and have a cold drink.
I about flipped when i got the estimate for covering the seats on my 3..........$300. This after I spent $$$ on a new seat base (rust-free), new springs (ouch), as well as padding, all i want'd was the **** covers installed!!
Turns out, after I spent ton's of $$$ on body work and paint the first thing anyone says about my car is "Wow!! the interior looks fantastic,,,,,,,,,who did it for you".
Moral of the story.... interior and seats are 150 percent of the first impression of your car........leave it to the professionals who know EXACTLY what it takes to get it looking CORRECT the first time. I REALLY hate DO-OVERS!!

This was the first time I did mine - still look great! It's not as hard as it would seem:

Ya, but you had help from divine intervention

Re: Got a quote on installing seat covers and foam

DNK,
Everyone has to install them from above! The mounting hard were would be in the way if you tried to install them from the other way.

Don't think he is invited into Mick's house

Re: Got a quote on installing seat covers and foam

Guys - I'm still struggling with the $600 to install the supplied foams, seat frame and diaphragm. I need to do the MGC as well, and heck between two that is $1,200. That is close to - combined - what I paided for both MGC, TR4A and Volvos....

Re: Got a quote on installing seat covers and foam

I ordered the foams from England and paid more than that just for the foams in a box. <sigh>

I'm doing the Spit in Leather, and that is the low end of what was quoted to me.
