goop on gaskets or not

I was going to use Permatex red, spray on sealant on the gaskets when I installed the new water pump on my J-H Lotus 907. But, thought I'd ask for thoughts on whether new gaskets needed any such thing. Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

I didn't use it on mine, and thre's no leaks. Are you using the new aftermarket gaskets (the rubber ones)?

The main trick with them is to A) chase/clean out the cam tower threads, and B) get the torque just right. Too little = leak, too much = leak.

Oh, and the lower one's much more annoying to set than the upper one.

Thanks Jody,
Am still procrastinating about getting to doing something, so it's not too late to change my mind. The pump gasket is the one that was sent with the pump from JHPS. I also have the stainless steel mounting bolts and washers. If you have the torque specs on those bolts handy could you get back to me with them? I've got the book, I'm just lazy. Guess I'll have to go to the shop, where I work and get my torque wrench, too. I'd better check the valve clearances while I'm at it as I've put that off too long already. If I'm going to all the trouble to put the kits in the carburetors it would sure make sense to do the valves. I'm pretty sure I have the good valve cover gaskets, but will clean the threads carefully when I go back with them. I least putting the new distributor on will be easier with the carbs off. I'm going to town now to do a little shopping then will get after it.

I would suggest Permatex Hylomar for the gasket. A *THIN* film on the thing is all you'd need.

As for the bolts, a TOUCH of anti-seize on the end of each and torque to spec. My 907 book is buried so mebbe Jody can post the value or you will have look it up yourself.
