Goodwood Speed week in the UK

I always enjoy watching the Good wood feature on speed TV & last night the 2004 was on. I mentioned to my bride how cool it looked and for the second time she said, why don't we go! We've never been to Europe & in as much as she wouldn't want to spent the entire time at the festive it sounds too inviting to turn down.

Can anyone tell me more about it, time of year & what they thought about it.

I'd prefer to hear from some Yanks as to their experience. Cost, etc. Wouldn't want any bias now would we! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Maybe a group trip from the states could get a travel package together??
 
England is hardly Europe - it's much much better.

If you do go don't fall into the tourist site-seeing trap. The UK is about as close as you can get to being "at home" (except for the left-side-driving thing). Get away from the cities and explore the small villages, especially up north (a friend of mine said he went to England and it was exactly like going to New York or DC - curious I thought - turns out he went to LONDON for 5 days and that's all he saw... what a shame!).
 
That would be cool. I'd be in, but just bought a 100 yr old bungalow. Most of my vacation time and money will be headed that way for a while.

Goodwood is in a beautiful part of the UK. It is in the south , about 30miles from Gatwick Airport. In is in the middle of the countryside so you would need transport to get there. I believe you now have to by a ticket which covers all three days , no day passes - so it is expensive to go.

Traffic can be a problem getting too and from the event.

If you fancy a break from the festival it is near a historic town called Chichester - lots to see and do and there are Roman ruins , castles and things near by (again car required)

I have been to the Goodwood Festival of Speed (FOS) before. There are two events, The FOS and the Goodwood Revival. I think the Festival of Speed is in late June.

Absolutely fantastic time. You simply cannot believe the mix of cars in the paddock and running "up the hill". The signs, sounds, smells and food were awesome. Many legendary drivers turn up and socialize.

The venue is located on the spectacular grounds of Goodwood House (horse racing, I think) near Chichester, about an hour or so southeast of London. It is beautiful. Expect to pay about $50/day and it sells out, so book early.

Take sunscreen and raingear. There are pub tents on site, and Moet sponsors champagne tents as well. Plenty of food. PM me if you have additional questions.

To be honest, I got lucky and was already in London on business and had the weekend free. I travel to the UK frequently for work; I'm going to miss it by about three weeks this year /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

You could probably book this on your own and do fine. Have you ever been to the UK before? Where are you located?

This is a very well done event, on par with the Monterey Historics (ok, the Cali scenery is much better, but the cars are fabulous).

Can't really give you any idea of cost, because I dont know where you're flying from. The UK is expensive at the moment, as the $ is getting hammered by the GBP. Plan on at least $130/ night plus meals, probably more. I would book quickly as the show usually sells out - they dont sell tix at the gate - you must prebook.
