Good upgrades to a stock BJ8

Maybe I'll get the pedastal and see if that is enough. Ian, what quarterlight mirror do you have? can you see it without turning your head to the side?

Roger, it is illegal to drive in Ca without a driver side exterior mirror (at the time your car was built it was required). Today you must have both side mirrors but you can plead antique status.

Bill,

I used to have this sort of mirror on my old BJ8 because I found wing mirrors worse than useless most times.

Mini clamp-on mirror

I think I could see the mirror without turning my head but it's a few years back now.

Cheers,

Ian

Hi Bill
Mine's almost the same as Ian's photo, slightly different clamping system and yes I can see it without moving my head. It's mounted on the lower left hand section of the quarter light which still closes ok. It also has the advantage of being cheap and seems well chromed.

Hi Bill,

Moss sells a quarter light mirror. Click here

The photo shows it clamped high, but you can clamp it anywhere on the channel.

Thanks guys. While I dislike the shape, I bought it anyway. Maybe I'll try one of the round ones after I try this one.

I also bought one of the high quality distributor rotors, the fawcett fuel pump (to be installed as an auxilliary pump) the kit to seal up the center tappet cover (mine is leaky) and a new speedo angle drive as I blew me old one out.

BY THE WAY... Moss tells me they no longer sell the Texas Kooler as they lost their supplier???!!!

I have the British Car Specialists 6 bladed fan with two piece shroud. It works great. No higher than 190 idling in traffic on a hot day. Never needed an overflow tank. Just fill 1 inch below bottom of filler neck.

Tim, that is where my tank has settled out and I may not install the overflow tank if it stays that way. In traffic, the needle junps up to about 205 on a "hot" day (low 80s). I'm guessing it will go up higher with more traffic and more ambient temperature. If I can't fine a Texas Cooler, I will look into the BCS fan.

By the way Ian and Ian, does that mirror attach to the gless or the chrome channel? In the picture, it looks like it is on the glass. The way my wing window fits, I'm not sure there will be enough room for this thing if it has to go on the channel.

How do you attach it to the channel when the rubber surround is pressed into the channel?

Mine, as in the photo I posted, attaches to the glass.

Yep you're right! Wrong car. My Healey mirror fixed to the glass so the quarterlight couldn't be used. Apologies for the confusion :wall:

Cheers,

Ian (still in the UK)

Thanks Ians. I never open mine as the replacement rubber is too big for the opening and makes it a pain to close the quarter lite.
