TR4/4A Good interior source

Rut,
the TR250 I did last year, all the interior came from TRF.

Marv,
OK, I'm convinced! Everything about that car was beautiful! I still have a trip planned to come up, but the Bugeye is taking longer than I planned between grandchildren and travel. My wife got the lets go see the world bug and I'm lucky to have 5 days out of a month in the shop!

Here are the early style TR4 seats and interior panels from The Roadster Factory that I installed in my 1962 TR4 just over a year ago.

I waited until the once a year interior sale and bought mine while the sale was on and got the leather seat variant at a significant discount. In fact I planned ahead and bought most of my parts for TRF will they were on sale then stored then above my garage until needed and saved a significant amount of money on the restoration.

The carpet is from Moss since I had read somewhere there carpet sets were closer to original and it did look very close to the two pieces of original carpeting still in the car.

The fit for this style was great.

Mine is the same (TRF leather and Moss grey carpet kit). Here were the prices from TRF last year during the trim sale:

I have probably bought 90% of my stuff from TRF during the restoration of my car, but I think I'm going to take advantage of Moss's interior sale. Their prices are significantly lower than TRF's sale prices on interior pieces and the quality has to be just as good or other people wouldn't order them. I was planning to go with Moss' carpet kit anyway. But when it's a $237 difference in cost for leather seat kit and $188 difference for the trim and top frame kits...that's pretty significant. Even with tax factored in I'm saving over $300.

I think the standard is set by Heritage up in Spokane. You pay for it, tho'

I bought mine from TRF and the quality is very nice. TRF sources them from Newton Commercial in the UK.

None of the US suppliers had molded carpet sets for my Herald so I ordered them directly from Newton. They also sold me a set of rear quarter panel cards with seat belt cut outs, since the new ones that came with the car didn't have the cut outs. I think Newton protects their dealers so you'd probably do better price wise by waiting for a sale from one of the big 3. Freight was $80 from England but Shipping is not exactly cheap in the US either. I'll post a picture when they come in.
The people at Newtons are knowledgeable, prompt and efficient.

When buying dash crash pads be aware of some quality issues if buying from a retailer in the USA that has them made in the USA. If buying again, I would buy them from the UK.
As for carpet sets, why not buy and cut new carpet yourself and have it edged by a local motor trimmer, this way you will achieve a neater fit.

That's what the P.O. did. The original carpets were molded, not sewn, and I couldn't get far enough away to have them look good. I suppose it might have been possible to make a better fit but I chose the reproductions. Tidy and as original.

I was locked in to TRF because they were the only ones offering the midnight blue color. If I required a more standard hue, I might very well have used Moss.

So my information may be dated, since I did this quite a few years ago. The first interior I installed was from Moss. It was fine, except the lines in the door panels were sewn, not heat sealed as original. I also felt the leather seat covers didn't fit quite right, but that could have been partly my fault. Later I installed an interior from TRF (going back to the original black with white piping, I had ordered a tan interior from Moss). The door panels were heat sealed, and the seat covers seemed to fit better, though I had them professionally installed this time. But this was about 15 years ago for the TRF interior, and close to 25 for the Moss.

So I received my panel kit from Moss last week and opened it up yesterday to double check the panels to see if they are sewn or heat sealed. Sure enough they are sewn so unfortunately this kit will be going back. Now my question is, if I plan to go thru TRF to buy my panels should I return my leather seat kit as well from Moss just to make sure the leather matches? I don't think there will be an issue with the seat kit, but I'm worried about that leather matching between the seats and panels. I'm going to be running TRF crash pads and panel kit and Moss leather seat kit and carpet kit. Thoughts?
