The other question being whether you want to hold a 5 watt (or whatever) transmitter to your ear for long periods of time.

IF the antenna was in the handpiece, you would be correct. Since the handpiece is tethered to the transmitter, receiver and battery...the antenna is in the bag, not the handpiece.

Sorry. I wasn't clear. I was talking about the later hand-held analog phones. The one I had had a short external antenna that wound up almost touching my head when talking on the phone.

Didn't use it much though, got it mostly so the hospital could contact me if my wife needed something or her condition changed.

Used to lay it on my desk at work, until we figured out why the monitor image would jump occasionally.
