Going to the UK

Country flag
Offline
Well it is official- I will be traveling to the UK on the first of the month. I, unfortunately will not be able to make the Royal Wedding, besides i think my invite got lost in the mail....

This will be a work related trip to the Coalville area. I will be installing one of THESE .

Just a little nervous about the travel, never been overseas. I have just a bit of trouble being some where where i can not, at least in theory, walk home. But I am looking forward to it.

You will love it. Except for the gear shift being under the left hand, and the rearview mirror being to my left, I felt right at home in the UK. The language is similar (except in Scotland), the people are friendly, and the sights are beautiful. Since you live in NEW England, you may feel like you are home.

The worst part is the flight, so just relax and have a great time. I am jealous.

Sounds to me like the job will be more fun than the trip, Mark.

You will love it, period.

There is nothing not to like in the UK. All good, wonderful people, great history all around.

Take photos, tell us about it! :yesnod:

Have a great trip!

However, reading the description of that thingy you're installing brought this to mind:

So, what can I do with that 'machine'? I'm not proud, I've not got the foggiest idea of what it is!

As to the UK, it's great. I suspect your flight will leave late so that it's a sleeper flight. Husband and I have been there twice and we slept on route and return so we didn't mind the long flight. I had to get used to looking to the right before crossing the street. I always look left and then right and then left again before crossing a street but it's just the opposite in the UK. This was a tad bit disconcerting.

Some profiler, such sagittal depths. It's way beyond my sphere. Enjoy your flight. I hope you are taking the longitudinal plane. --elrey

I don't know it's use either, but it sounds like my optometrist could use one. :jester: PJ

Do not worry your pretty little head, it's just another medial line. elrey

Probably wouldn't use a 2500 that much since it's for axisymmetric surfaces. He/she should get a 3000.

Now, if round glasses make a big comeback...

Okay, I have deduced that it is some sort of measuring equipment. But for what is the query. Come on guys, someone needs to explain this to me in layman's terms. Thanks!

Simply put, an ultra precision measuring tool on the cutting edge of the technology. They can use it measure the curvature of lenses and such, in order to ensure accuracy in optical medical or industrial devices, microscopes, cameras, reflectors and who knows what. The nano part means darn fine measurements. Accurate to such an incredibly tiny fraction of the smallest piece of a smidgen of some terribly minute bit so infinitesimal that I am not allowed by the laws of physics to explain any further. --elrey

elrey, ya mean they didnt have this before?, then how did they get all them big healeys parts to fit together sooo well?... :jester:... id recently watched a special about rusky and u.s. spy planes and was amazed at the sharpnes and clarity of the cameras used at such great altitude, you mean they can do better now?..still more amazed. :savewave:

Don't know how long you're staying, but I frequently order parts and have them shipped to the office. I've brought all sorts of stuff home as "luggage".

Haven't been to the UK in about a year, but I used to lead a development team that had a bunch of people in London. It was an every other month or so commute for years.

:thankyousign: I feel just a smidgeon more intelligent. For those who must know, a smidgeon is a tad more than a bit, metrologicly speaking of course.

Wish I was going! You are going to have a blast. It's like living in your own movie. The sights are different. the sounds and smells are different, the people are different, the food, the architecture, the landscape, the streets, signage, sidewalks, you name it- it is different. And you will be different as well. Relax. enjoy the trip. You will remember this forever. --elrey
