I was last there about 3 years ago, and this is what I recommend. These are in roughly the same area and can be seen in one day:
1) The Louvre, but you could easily spend a couple days, or more,here. It's amazing, stunning, magnificent;
2) Musee de Orsay: arguably the world's best collection of impressionist art, and in a great neighborhood to roam about with tons of great restaurants/bars, etc. (St. Germain);
3) Notre-Dame: Napoleon was crowned here, and it's over 1,000 years old. History personified and maybe the most beautiful stained glass anywhere. Amazing place.
Also, I say stay away from anything that resembles American food! Eat the local stuff: it's very, very difficult to find bad food in Paris. The French take great pride in their food, and it shows.

Can't remember the specifics, but if you grab one of the typical guide books like Lonely Planet, take their advice and grab a train/metro pass for your trip. No need for taxis, just use the metro with great walks, etc. Eiffel Tower is of course a no-brainer too, but be sure to walk around there and check out the mini-Statue of Liberty on the Seine. You are gonna love the trip.
