Having lost my best childhood friend to MD (the year after he graduated high school), MDA has long been one of my favorite charities and I seldom miss watching at least some of the MDA telethon. Looks like this year will be Jerry Lewis' last hosting the telethon. Going to be a tough act to fill them shoes!
 
It's hard to imagine all the hard work Jerry Lewis put into this effort over the years. It's a huge production, and his participation meant everything to the organization.

He's a real winner for his contribution to MD. History will remember him for this good deed, possibly above his acting career.

You don't have to apologize. I appreciate him for what he has done for MDA - his acting I could care less about.

I use to like Jerry. Then I learned he said some "bad" things about where I live. Now I wouldn't "do the bad thing" on him if he were on fire!!! :frown:
 
Regardless how we feel about his acting, or his politics, etc etc., it can't be denied that he has raised God knows how many hundreds of millions of dollars to fight a family of diseases which has benefited so many families as to be uncountable. He has said some things politically that I have huge issues with, but I'm basing my admiration on what he has in fact done to help millions of families around the world. Maybe I'm biased because I lost my best friend to MD.

I don't know the guy from Adam. They say the guy was a jerk. But I've laughed plenty at his character on the screen, lowbrow humor perhaps. So... good for him, and all those folks his efforts have helped. Whatever his underlying reasons were, he's done a good thing for many years. None of us know what it's like to be Jerry, he may be fighting off bigger interior demons than we struggle with ourselves. Let's give the man a break and welcome the good he has done. --elrey

Actually, Jerry Lewis is hugely loved by the French as an actor. Very, very popular over there whereas here in the US, his acting and entertaining skills are mostly dissed. Just stating a fact. Aside from his ability to raise money for MDA (for which I admire him), I just never was a fan of the man. No where near as much as the French people. Really have no comment about any of his politics or whatever.

Kinda like David Hasselhoff was once loved in Germany as a singer whereas in the US, we dissed him as well. Well, we did admire the way he could eat a cheeseburger while imbibed.
 
Always look for the good in people and how their being here has somehow improved the life of others, and for that, you will be deeply rewarded, if only in personal satisfaction! JMHO. PJ
