I've talked to the owner on the phone.
Comes with parts: hood, windshield, doglegs, rockers & boxes o parts!

(see CraigsList ad below)

It's been a while since I've had a running GT! I told the wife that a GT would be a lot better for driving in the winter (vs the Midget that is)... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Re: Going to look at this '71 MGB-GT after work today

Uh - uh - uh, a split bumper 1970!!

Tony, I take it that's good?
Hey - I got dibs man! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Oh yeah, and it's just a couple miles from where I work. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Re: Going to look at this '71 MGB-GT after work to

Pictures will follow actually getting it home...

Sweet little engine bay, the PO is a great guy - owned an MGC roadster before as well as another MGB.

This car needs work, but it comes with factory new parts he bought long ago and never installed!

I was literally 5 minutes ahead of the next guy who also brought cash with him.
I'm leaving with the wife to go get the car in about 15 minutes. Oh, it goes in forward and reverse and it stops too!
It actually drives!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Re: Going to look at this '71 MGB-GT after work to

Post on craigslist has been removed. What does it look like?

This is where taking a screenshot of the ad comes in handy!

Man! I think that you've been taken!
If you change your mind...I'll give you
$500 for it.
Just kidding - looks like a great deal.

Good steal - er, deal!

Re: Going to look at this '71 MGB-GT after work to

He told me the clutch needs to be bled, but for $800 he wasn't going to get under there and do it.

He did put in a new 12 volt battery, in one of the intact battery boxes - not rusted out!

It could really use a carpet kit and a couple seat covers.
It does need a bit of body work, but not much.
I am very pleased with this purchase, oh and he gave me 23 years worth of paperwork and the original owner metal plate - with the ownders name & address and all that punched in.
Along with paperwork from the previous owner.
Man, you just don't come across things like this every day.

Hopefully I'll take some pictures tomorrow. I need to take it in to get some new tires on it and get the title & registration done.

Looks like a day off work is in order /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Re: Going to look at this '71 MGB-GT after work to

I just registered it as a collector vehicle.
Cost a bit more this year, but - I'll never pay them again for this car!

I think I'm heading down a very slippery slope here...

Well, one car at a time.

Where do I find answers to questions of style?

Example: What tail light lenses are correct for this year, make & model? Only the ones that are on it (flat faced two tone), or are the '69 rounded lenses also appropriate?

These would be questions that would have to do with show worthiness, not personal style.

Re: Going to look at this '71 MGB-GT after work to

It came with the "flat" style ones, so if you have originality in mind, that's it.

Re: Going to look at this '71 MGB-GT after work to

Yeah, but the round 2-piece lights look so nice...especially when you use the Euro amber upper pieces!

Re: Going to look at this '71 MGB-GT after work to

So if I had showing it in mind, would I be limited to using the flat ones?

Is it a big deal?
I'm not looking at trying to win anything, I just think it would be enjoyable to pursue that side of this lbc hobby.

I agree with Tony, so I will be looking for one of the amber colored uppers. At least just for my own pleasure, keeping the flat ones for when they might be needed.

Oh, I'm working on my pictures now. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Well, one car at a time.

But Rick, you've already got three cars -- denial already? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

As an incentive:

Re: Going to look at this '71 MGB-GT after work to

hmmm body work, you could be opening pandora's box.. when I did my B over, the rust did not look so bad from th eoutside, a small hole like what you show..

once I took the panel off, there was nothing left of the inner pnels..

...but, hey, leave it alone, and make a nice driver out of it..heck this way when yo go to the local supermarket, and some dufus MOM lets go of her shopping cart and slides into the side of your GT, all you do is shrug your shoulders insted of a full0blown coronary..

good luck..

Re: Going to look at this '71 MGB-GT after work to

It's definitely going to be a rolling project.
Last time I put a running MG in the back yard was 20 years ago, some of it is still there. The soil around it is now iron rich!

Re: Going to look at this '71 MGB-GT after work to

Tim, I've sent you a PM and an email.
