Hey all,
Quick question - can you convert a 1960 BN7 from standard
disc wheels to wire wheels simply by purchasing the wire
wheel hubs and the wheels or is it more involved than I
think ?
Thanks,
Mike

you will need to get spline hubs and remove the old system, currently they cost around 135.00 each, knockoffs are extra.your car will then need wires,I prefer Dayton, they use stainless spokes, which are stronger than plated ones,360.oo each.If you want a proper job of mounting, balancing, and want the wheels trued to perfection,Hendrix Wire Wheels is the LAST shop on earth to do this.Need more info? call me..... Tom 336-674-2616see the Hendrix web site for a TON of Healey info...

just noticed you are in SC,you should come to Greensboro and see us,we always have a few collectibles in the shop, and you can see the operation,we are in Gso near the Coliseum.... Tom

You might find someone on the forum willing to trade their wire wheels and hubs for your disk wheels and hubs. The disk wheels are really superior and quite rare. It is going to cost plenty to make the conversion, and then you could end up with a shimmying Healey like the rest of us.

I would consider the trade myself but I have a BN1 and the front and rear hubs are not compatible with the BN7.

Mike,

I was going to make the same conversion years ago, but changed my mind. I have, stored in my garage for the last 23 years, all of the parts to make the conversion, a complete 410 ratio differential, and the front assemblies unbolted at the wishbone arms. They originally came from a BN7! Please send me a PM or give me a call if you have any interest.

Thanks - Duane

Before you attempt this, get hold of the parts manual
which will list the differences, which are significant.
Years ago I bought a BN4 in a basket where the previous
owner started to convert the car from steel wheels
to wires. I decided to go back to the original steel
wheels, and thats when I discovered how hard it was and
how many parts I was missing. I'll *never* do that
again! From memory the differences; brake drums, back
plates, front stub axels, emergency brake rods and
maybe rear end axel shafts.

Hey all
thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. Whole thing turned out to be
a moot point as passed on the BN7. Think I better stick to my 100-4 LeMans
project for now !!!!
Thanks,
Mike
