I think it's something to do with the 911 system. The kids, (5 people), are flying in from the East coast via American and hopefully it won't affect their flights. :rolleyes2:

Hi Paul - AA has cancelled its global ground stop orders, but there will continue to be snarl-ups for quite awhile.

Sure glad I don't use Falcon as my antivirus!

CrowdStrike is used by a whole lot of systems, I feel for their IT folks, they're having a really bad day.

Fortunately what I need to logon to is working, but they have 300 or so servers down due to this issue with no estimate of when things will be back. And I've noticed there are odds and ends on the net I sometimes visit that are getting not responding type errors.

It's a world-wide problem, caused by a fault in Crowdstrike Falcon security software. (That's scary enough ...)

Most of our personal services are now handled by digital systems; in many cases we had no choice as the services pushed "Go paperless!"

Imagine the chaos if hacker(s) actually *targeted* 'net servers world wide, or even if they just targeted security software. That mind boggles.

Modern tech does mean convenience, but it also opens us up to errors like this and actual evil intent from all over the world. Old fashioned ways, while not as easy and not as able to see everything also wasn't as susceptible to error and intent. One reason I still pay most bills via mail, don't have payment apps and limit where I leave information online. I may be old fashioned, and called so, but I have less risk of loss and inconvenience.

We were bound for family fun in Ohio last night. We waited on the plane for an hour, then were told to return to the holding pen. After a bit more than two ours we were told the flight was canceled. The best Delta Airlines could do was take the baggage off the aircraft and send us out of the airport. Kinda scary, I think, that some apparently small bit of code messed of so many flights. (And appprently banks, and other services.) We decided to end the trip, and fortunately had all the money refunded, although it took serious time, more than two hours on the web site, to take care of the issue. Yes, computers can do so many things so quickly, but when they screw up... The whole travel process, buying tickets, printing boarding passes, has shifted. Computers aren't necessarily "labor saving," they are "labor shifting."

The kids left Philly in the early morning and usually arrive in Tulsa by 2 in the afternoon, I picked them up at 7:45 in the evening. Fortunately for us they did get here, but they were beat!

Glad to hear they survived the computer snarl up.

Sounds like Amtrak trains had no problem, but people using online apps to buy tickets were hit.

My eldest lives in Japan and rides bullet trains, has No car. Here in America Big oil won't let us have
such conveniences......
