Give em a hand

We do realize we are debating a cliche? Pretty soon we will be making jokes about other cliches like Lucas wiring, the unreliability of British Cars, the rust of British cars.... Oh, wait a minute.

I must be the odd man out. I love a good minivan.

Mum bought the first one in '84 (a Dodge Caravan), and there's been a succession of them in the family ever since. There are very few vehicles that are anywhere near as flexible. She now has a '08 Town & Country (bought it when the car market was dead, so got a killer deal on it). That thing has those stow & go seats and the automatic doors on both sides. Amazing! The amount of kids, dogs, stuff, etc you can cram in that thing is just incredible.

We drive a Ford Explorer, and I'd trade it for one of those Town & Country's in a heartbeat. My challenge is convincing the wife to drive one. She thinks she can cram the kids into the back of a Challenger.

We're about to do our summer exodus out of Phoenix to Seattle and the wife will be driving Mum's car up north. I'm really hoping she falls in love with it during the drive.

There's the issue. Timing belts, water pumps, transaxles, alternators. Some worse than others.
2.6 Chrysler Mini Vans with 10-feet of timing chain and a "balance shaft".....3.0L V-6 with sliding exhaust valve guides...computer controlled transaxles at $4600 each time....

The real teller is "'84 (a Dodge Caravan), and there's been a succession of them in the family ever since". Keep 'em two years, let the dealer do the warranty repairs, probably a good deal!

I hate that type of attitude - we had a Ford Aerostar,
because we had 3 kids & needed a sensible vehicle. It was
the perfect vehicle for our needs.
We had neighbors with kids that had a Camaro, cramped,
impracticle - but they looked "cool".Why?
If this was meant in humor - I apologize, otherwise,I
feel very sorry that image is more important that being practicle.

Haters gonna hate  Minivans aint my style....sorry. Rather walk.

Practicality is another thing all together. I own a Toyota Tundra for all the dirty work....

I am definitely NOT a mini-van fan. My first car was a worn down 93 Plymouth Voyager. Traded it for an Impala and never looked back. The van had a 3.0 V6 that ran as a V5 until both head gaskets blew and i found the burnt valve in it. 20mpg on a good day. Refused to run if it was raining (strange problem it had since new). It had 170,000 miles and was on tranny number 4 when it was sold. But I will say that even being a short wheelbase version, it would haul an amazing amount of cargo, usually had lots of power, and would four wheel drift around curves on dirt roads like it was built to do that... Had a buddy with an older Nissan Sentra 2 door that he put a lot of money into to make it faster that was pretty upset when I caught up to him on a dirty road with that van. Last I heard that old van was out in Missouri still running hauling paint for a painter. So if anybody in Missouri happens to see a fire truck red Voyager with chrome trim, a silver double pinstripe, black roof rack, and a rust spot on the lower right side of the lift gate, you might be seeing my old "red monster".

Crap... now I miss that thing...

As a demonstration that everything is available on the interwebz...I present to you the Dodge Caravan Owners Forum.

https://dodgecaravanforum.com/

Who knew?

Hate to spark this up,but...,I have owned 4 Astro/Safari vans in the past.
Since I am a contractor I need a good vehicle that will hold what I need and also double as a kid, family hauler on shorts jaunts.
As they don't make this anymore I am down to just 2 vehicles that will have the capability of the seats folding flat under the floor.
So ,sorry Randy, I am a Mini van guy only by necessity! :g:

What are you doing Sat.
I'll come by and pick you up and you can drive by your ol college mates!

I had a problem with the wife's Sebring....found an owners club, joined, stated the problem and asked for advice - solutions. Just like here, I had answers in 24 hours.

Fixed the problem in under an hour by knowing where to look, what to look for, and a step by step procedure to get there.

Gotta love th' innerwebs!

You people scare me.

Though, ...when I move to the south, isn't it a prerequisite to have a handgun and a shotgun or something in the house??
