Girling MK2a vacuum servos?

"Grab 'n Growl" Tony. The booster ain't that "strange" once ya get into it. With the kit in hand you'll see what's what in an eyeblink.

Tony, here is something I found useful, take the "air filter" off and run the engine at idle, see if there is vacuum there. If so, take the 'tube' off (4 screws on the side and a push in at the pot) and look for crud in there. Any stuff that interferes with the 'rocker' or the two small seals and their mating surfaces will wreak havoc with these things. You might get lucky! (and as much as it pains me, I refuse to throw in a "Dirty Harry" reference here). BTW when you take off the big pot cover take all the screws out but 2 and have a helper hold the cover as you take these out, unless you feel REALLY lucky - Well, DO ya?

Cheers!
Dave G.
P.S. Iffin ya don't mind lookin at a Girly-man book, I have a Volvo *.pdf diagnostic on these I could send. Heh, speaking of Volvos (attachment)

Do th' word "SPROINGGG!!" mean anything to ya?!?

That stoopid filter is common to a LOT of units, BTW.

Well pardner, it ain't the "SPROINGGG!!" that gets ya (and the car/garage/etc.)!
"I've been...SLIMED!" Rick Morranis et.al. "Ghostbusters".
DOT 3, in quantity, marinated for decades in God knows what (ancient Lucas red rubber grease + leather?), is nothing to fool around with. Makes surplus MRE's seem tame!

Cheers!

Thanks for the tips - I think I have vacuum & its not sucking fluid into the booster so I may get lucky!

Well everthing looks ok except that lousy stinkin Submarine intake manifold.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You be talking about Volvos?; 444,544, Amazon,122Saloon,122Estate,P1800,P1800S.P1800E.&P1800ES-Whew- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

Well, days & days later - & after removing & installing at least 20 times, my rebuilt (READ: everything inside new to include the check valve) booster still isn't right...I'm gonna try an in-line check valve to see if that makes a difference...if it does, I'll pull an old one off the shelf & rebuild it in place of the one in the car.

Hi Tony, it has been a while since I played with my Volvos. However as I recall the Vacuum line fitting at the Booster contains a one way valve. Two problems I remember with them are;1] they get cruded up and don't move.2]the little flapper inside gets upset and does not lay flat, in either case the valve does not function.---Fwiw---Keoke

Hi Tony, can you describe the symptoms? Sticking on, mushy brakes, no boost or what.
Have you put the kit in?
Cheers!
Dave G.

New one-way (check) valve...brakes are just hard, much harder than the brakes on my other boosted cars.

OK, take the metal tube off, the one that goes from the air valve 'rocker' chamber to the front of the booster pot. On a 'C' this is the area that has the 3 close spaced screws, the chamber has 4 screws at 90degs. It should just pull out of the front of the booster pot.
Take a compressed air line, the thumb operated air blowers with a pointy rubber end are great for this. Lay your hand on the pot and give it pressure (not a lot) release by removing the air line tip. Do this repeatedly, if you dont 'feel' movement in the pot with each cycle, that is where your problem lies. They can stick closed or open!

Cheers!

Everything inside the booster is BRAND NEW! But, I'll try that next....
