girling master cylinder [brake]

my master cylinder has a plastic reservoir.does
anybody know if this thing is supposed to have a
rubber o-ring to seal the reservoir? the girling
catalog doesn't show one. mine has one,but it's
shot. not sure if i can eliminate it or not. it
leaks a little.

I don't have the same master cylinder but my Triumph motorcycle has Girling/Lockheed master cylinders which are similar. They DO have Orings & I don't see how leaks can be prevented without the rings.

Why not replace the O'ring. Most bearing supply stores have a large selection of rings, as do hydraulic supply shops. If it leaks a little bit with a ring, it would surely leak a lot more without one.

I know it's not the same, but my MC's have rubber diaphragm cover seals to keep air & moisture from entering.

the pictures on the girling site do not show
a ring or gasket between the reservoir and the
cylinder. it also shows a gasket for the lid,
which is missing on mine. i may be loosing fluid
around the cap because the threads are very course and plastic.i was just wondering if removing the o ring under the reservoir would
seat the threaded portion of the reservoir too
far into the body of the cylinder,,if that makes
any sense.i need to try to find a gasket for the
lid someplace. i don't need a whole rebuild kit
