Just can't figure out what to get that friend who seems to have everything? >>HERE

Kinda tough to decide on that one. Definitely don't have one, but I think I'll pass up the opportunity. :highly_amused: PJ

My kids and their friends are hugely into board games (which is actually pretty awesome when I think about it) and, it is absolutely astonishing to me how games have changed since we played scrabble and monopoly and even Trivial Pursuit. Can't say we like them all though there are some that we love Dominion & Ticket to Ride to name a few. That said, there are a bunch of quick card games - Kittens in a Blender (better than it sounds) Zombie Dice (OK) Love Letter (Pretty Good)

There are even bar/coffee shops for hipsters to come and play games - the one my daughter likes is called Snakes and Lattes.

Even my son who with his friends could not afford to go out would have monthly pot luck suppers (themed) and would play games or create elaborate trivia games based on the Simpsons.

"Inventing" games is a big big industry with everyone hoping for the next Trivial Pursuit (Or Dominion or Ticket to Ride) - it is a fascinating world - and cool that a new generation is pulling away from their computers to actually sit around a table and play a game.

All this is a serious answer to a silly post I know but, if nothing, I might have found a birthday gift for my daughter.

Mits and I were forbidden by the family from being on the same Pictionary team... two commercial artists against a bunch of AMATEURS. :smirk:

...can't post what clues got us banned from collaborating but there was considerable laughter and family bonding involved. All great fun and fond memories.

Scrabble? That was ~blood-sport~ in our house. Scores in the 3,000 area were not uncommon.

I recently discovered Hnefatafl, or viking chess, it is a fast paced tactical game. I enjoy it because I can play a game or possibly even two over my lunch break, unlike chess.

Make in my military days, the gang from work would gather semi-regularly to play Risk!

Risk is one of my all time favorite board games, I've pretty much always kept a group of friends that enjoy playing it.
