Sports Car Clubs I knew and loved...Ghost Clubs
Anyone remember the Penn-Ohio Sports Car Club? Used to meet in the Youngstown / Warren, Ohio area...ran a great hill climb event every year in Lowellville, as I remember. There were members who also belonged to The Steel Cities Corvette Club...I guess that is a Ghost Club also.

*BUMP*

Steel Cities?!?! I'm a former denizen of Nelson's Ledges, Steel Cities Region, Formula-A wrench, Porsche wrench outta Sewickley.

How's come you don't POST around here?!?!

My Dad was a Steel Cities Region member.... Doc did you see my most recent post about finding mt Dad's car?

yup. Kinda freaky, in a nostalgic sorta way.

So, Doc., did you know Myron Yoho too?? I'm trying to locate some of the old race programs I have stashed away to see if I can find anything for Peter in them!

The Steel Cities Corvette Club is active in the Cumberland Airport Autocross Series. I wouldn't call it a Ghost Club.

The SCCA Nationals held at Cumberland Airport in '50s - '70 were run by the Steel Cities Region SCCA.

Dave Williams has a nice website of photos from the Cumberland Airport Races. I will search Myron Yoho.

It's called Steel Town Corvette Club.

Couldn't find any photos of Myron Yoho.

Keep diggin'.

Actually, Myron Yoho was just a question in passing! I am trying to locate info on the De Tomasso Formula A/Formula Junior once owned by Peter Hays Dad in the early 60's and campaigned in the Steel City Region for Peter! I'm thinking the Barcboys site might be worth a look too!

Doc,

I was involved for a short time with an FA-F500, McLaren M18 ISTR. Ed Zink was the engineer (of FV,F Ford, supervee fame). We bought 3 Ford engines from Bud Moore and raced in the touring series in about 1973. Car got airbourne at Road America (I think that was the track, wasn't there myself), and flew off into the trees. Destroyed the car and the drivers ambition to do that anymore.

Video of the car, #32, at Mid-Ohio in '73 @

Nice footage there Jim!! Those F5000s sure sounded sweet, didn't they!!
So, Doc., did you get to have a chat with Peter since you actually wrenched on the car in question? Can't wait to hear...this world just keeps shrinking and shrinking the older I get!!

Fun to read!

I have a few "ghost clubs" I can think of too.

Flying Burros Sports Car Club (at McGuire AFB)

Delaware Valley Sports Car Club (Trenton, NJ area)

Morristown High School Sports Car Club (NJ)

How 'bout the "Wing & Bonnet SCC"? Remember that one?

Someplace in the pile of STUFF here is 8mm footage of Cumberland in the late 50's. Along with B&W pix... It's a "GOK pile" at the moment.

How about Mon (Monongahela) Valley Sports Car Club?

Here's a screen capture of a cool photographer I made from a DVD from a VHS from a home movie made at Cumberland Airport. I have determined that it was made in '64. Original moviemaker unknown. The movie focusses on Dennis Riley's TR4 and his cowboy-hatted crew. Donna Mae Mims appears on a scooter. Tullius or Ferstenau is in a white TR4. Other cool cars are shot, too.

John- any thing you want me to say to the old 3 at Portland this weekend?

Tell him that I still think of him every day, and that, although I miss him very much, I know that his new master has taken very good care of him. And will continue to do so.

Tell him to go fast and not break down.

Ask him if he remembers this track day:
