The other day while driving my SUV to Washington DC in traffic on I-95, I saw a LBC coming up behind me. He was approaching quickly so I kept watching. The fella passed me while I was doing about 70mph with no problem. He had to be going 80 and I thought about the safety.. first he wouldn't survive and second the demise of a beautiful TR3. I drive my TR6 a lot, but tend to be overprotective in parking lots and busy highways. Now on the open back roads, we cruise.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif
 
I realized that my TR6 was going to provide me about as much collision protection as the touring bike it replaced. The key for me was realizing folks see right over you.
WHen the rollbar was installed I purchased a 50 LED red lightbar off of ebay for around $15. I siliconed it under the center section of the rollbar. I also replaced the stock bulbs in the tailights and runnning lights with LEDs to offset the amp draw for the light bar. I do know others can see that thing -since it really glows bright i nthe bumper of that SUV behind me.

In traffic I also try and get way up front or lag behind. I don't like being in the thick of things. Folks in Albuquerque seem to be chronic lane changers-with NO warning. If they can get 10 feet ahead, they'll swoop over.

I installed halogen 1157 bulbs I got from Whitney for $10 a pop for my brake lights. I am still mulling over ideas for a third light. I kinda like that roll bar mount idea.
 
Re:getting hit

Thats always one of my worst fears...never had a problem yet but had a few close calls....the `58 MGA has become as close to a trailor queen as possible without owning a trailor(no room or else we would)and once the MGTC is finished it'll probably be in the same boat. The rest are all driven regularily, my mom drives the 61 MGA daily in the summer, I feel a little safer in the B's due to the fact they they have seat belts, normal windows, and hardtops(on the 78's)but I am still extremely cautious with them. Another worry is theft cuz face it LBC security is almost laughable, but I guess if you spend your whole life protecting them instead of driving them then wats the point.
