I've had my bugeye for 25 yrs and have wrestled with a lot of the issues that are being addressed on the forum. I was a little active on the forum a couple yrs ago when I put the 1275 & 5 speed in. Got busy and away from the forum, but now i'm back. I've enjoyed reading the posts and the responces. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

A/H would have still been selling Bugeyes if they would only have known.

I want to hear about this conversion as well.

Frankly, I'm not the most gifted mechanic around. I will lay claim to some of the best friends who are willing to lend a hand when I get to limit of my ability. After saying that, When I made the decision to go away from the 948, I was leaving that stock world to a new adventure. Rivergate is great in all aspects. The kit for the conversion is well thought out and easy to follow the mods for the installation. Any ?s and they have an answer that I could understand. All that said. Syncro 1st and a 5th gear is really nice. I haven't changed my rear end and I am running 75 at 4200 rpm. the 1275 likes that that speed & will pull any hill on the interstate around here. This summer I'm installing a sc'ed engine. More fun!!!!!!!!!! I did worry about going away stock, but afterward, I wonder why I didn't do it before.

When you get that SC engine you should switch to a 3.9 or 3.7 rearend. Even with my 3.9 in my heavy midget, the car will pull from 75 to 90 in a flash in fifth gear. At 70 mph I'm turning about 3500 rpms, so at 4200 rpms I'm at 84 mph.
