We all know that secret agent Maxwell Smart drove a Sunbeam Tiger...right?

Not exactly.

He also drove a Ferrari, a Karmann-Ghia, an Opel GT and an ALFA.

Don's personal Tiger.

Hi Doc! I hate to disagree with you, but my understanding is that the car used in the series was not Don's personal car, since the car from the TV show had a lot of secret agent props added to it.

Here's a shot of Don in his personal car -- "would you believe" he's driving to the dump?

In the series it was both a Tiger, and an Alpine with Tiger trim since the real Tiger didn't have room under the hood for the cannon and other goodies he used. The Ferrari was apparently only in the pilot, that's why most never saw it.

Ahhh... I sit corrected. Thought I recalled bein' told it wuz his. Mebbe it was just a Wikipedia entry then.

Ferrari :yesnod:

(I'd guess a 250 California Spyder, but I'm no Ferrari expert)

Close, but it's actually a 250 GT Cabriolet Pininfarina Series II...about 212 produced. I posted the clip on Ferrari Chat to see if they can also come up with a serial number and some history. The guys in the vintage section eat that kind of stuff up. They love taking serial numbers.

I shoulda thought of that for a pal's 308. It was purported Lee Majors/Farrah Fawcett were the original owners... no paper trail to back it up. He sold the bloody thing a year or so ago.

All this makes me want to go out to the garage and fire up the Tiger and rev the engine for a while. The PO put three-inch flow-through pipes on it, and so it sounds like a beast. I though of replacing it with the stock 1 inch pipes, but decided not to -- it just makes me laugh. The neighbors, not so much.

Reminds me of what I was told about this car. Supposedly this was one of 4 XK-120's owned by Clark Gable. I know for sure it was driven from L.A. to LA. Not bad for $150.00 even for a college sophmore.

Too bad there was no paper trail. His mildly strange MG TD sold for about $110,000 a few years ago at auction. It had aftermarket wire wheels and add-on chrome stripes on the sides. I also remember a supposedly ex-Lee Majors TD selling on eBay a while back that I think was stretched to four seats.

This was your neighbor, John. He didn't consult me before he got th' thing. There's a lot more back story, too.

Yeah, but it wasn't running at the time. Pig in a poke. Turned out the starter had wedged itself into the flywheel and locked everything up.

Slightly OT - (at least back to Get Smart) Was realizing this morning that 99 was likely my first celebrity crush.

I don't remember the Ferrari, but remember the Tiger
& Opel. The "Golden Age" of television.
