Geo Thermal Project shut down

Too bad, given the potential. What with the temperature of the Earth's core being several million degrees (much hotter than the surface of the sun), one would think the potential for energy production is unlimited!

By the way TIC!

hmmmm......I may have to lock this thread...hehehehe

I love cheese.

I'm in a naughty mood....but TIC = Tounge in Cheek! Other the other hand, I just had a big plate of Nachos smothered in Cheese and Jalapenos!

Ouch... no close contact at parties tonight..

Is it me, or is drilling near a fault kinda a dumb idea. Maybe they should drill in the middle of a tectonic plate, saaaaaaaayyyy Yellowstone. I'm sure that wouldn't bother the magma chamber down there too much.

(Disclaimer: Also TIC)

*SNAP!*

Isn't Yellowstone overdue for some sort of major event?

Yup. I'd stay well away from th' whole caldera, personally.

I'd get to Key West if I'd not homesteaded here.

Th' Reality Bomb is tickin'.

Well, if three eruptions occurring approx 650,000 years apart happens like clockwork for the rest of Earths life, then yeah we're due.

I'm still waiting for some relatively small rock to come out of left field and make a hole in the planet the size of Texas and plunge us into a 300 year winter! We're nowhere near prepared for that eventuality!

I think the Yellowstone volcano would do about the same thing. 'Cept it would be hotter in our neck of the woods.

From Wikipedia: The last full-scale eruption of the Yellowstone Supervolcano, the Lava Creek eruption which happened nearly 640,000 years ago[13], ejected approximately 240 cubic miles (1000 cubic kilometres) of rock and dust into the sky.[8]

Iceland has been powered by nearly 100% Geothermal for years now. Wouldn't you think they would have some data on quakes?
