This particular company has been around for a couple of years.
I think it's more hype than reality. I find it hard to imagine that it will ever get certification as legal registered automobile.
Paul is right.... if you want to see one from the 1950's just go to the EAA museum in Oshkosh, WI.

We're building ~Mini-Electric Vehicles~ right now, as part of a proposed inter-school challenge.

My boss found a folding kart that would fit in a briefcase and thought it might be interesting, but it was too complex for some of our partner schools. It was similar to the scooter in the link above.
I can't find it right now, but it was pretty neat. Oddly, it was gas-powered.

Nial, My grandson is working on his engineering degree in collage and for one project he is working on a car that runs on air by using dry ice and water. Uses a piston engine utilizing super light weight materials including a lot of plastic in the engine it's self. Crazy huh?
