I came across an 8trac tape I recorded when Geoff Healey was attending the AHSTC Encounter of 1979.
great audio with Geoff - answering questions from the audience:
1 - telling about the 100-SIX creased hood
2 - telling about the new mini grille in the 100-SIX hood.
3 - the special equipment DMH wore at the 1956 Bonneville speed trials
4 - reason for the 100 location at Earls Court in 1952
and many other tidbits
I recognize some voices 1 - John Morrison former president of AHSTC, 2 - Jeff Smith, and 3 - possibly Bruce Phillips, as well as, Margo and I believe, Kate.
My question - Can anyone give me the inside track to getting this transfered to the PC and then being able to get this to be heard by interested Healey parties by tuning in from the web. TIA - Jim /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

I've not done it myself but there are businesses that do this:

https://www.lightsound.com/tape_to_cd.htm

is in New Jersey and may be close to you, and there may be more local companies too.

Once on a CD you should be able to upload or duplicate it easily.

(Your hobbies: big healeys & 74 Karmann Ghias? why so many- 5 or 10 even but where do you put 74 of them?)

Thanks for the input - I will look them up and keep you posted. Re: Karmann ghias - I like them - they don't have lucas parts

Perhaps I should have signed Karmann Ghias - a 74 coupe and a 74 convertible /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

i had a GHIA early model, actually took it to 'woodstock'1969,it was black, white interior and like brand new ,and i loved it, the only car i liked as much at the time was my corvair!it was also like brand new.push button trans!lots of fun.good luck with /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif the audio stuff,id very much like to listen to it when you get it sorted out! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

When I listened to it for the first time yesterday in over 25 years - it certainly brought back great memories of the good old days with the early days of the AHSTC. I too think it would be interesting for those new comers, who may have never heard Geoff speak of the cars that he so dearly loved.
Hear it from the man in his own words. It certainly was refreshing to me. Jim /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

The tape is off to them tomorrow and should be returned with the CD in a week to 10 days, by priority mail.

I just got the cd back from LightSound and the length of time is a total of 72 minutes, but the actual interview is 45 minutes with a number of empty time spaces and a number of loud applause times after Geoff's candid comments about the Austin Healeys. Over the holiday I will try to do some editing on my pc and try to get some sound clips available for all to hear. I will try to get some of the questions raised from the audience amplified - since at times they are hard to hear. Another fun healey project for the cold months. - jim /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Jim has an extensive collection of Healey and Healey family memorabilia which contains something I never expected to lay my eyes upon:

In a conversation in 1999 with the widow of my 100's first owner I learned that a picture of her husband driving the car on the beach at Daytona had appeared on the front page of a 1957 issue of The Daytona Morning Jounal. The paper had long been out of business and I considered this to be an interesting if unverifiable piece of trivia lost to history.

At AHS&TC Encounter 2003 (Princeton)I was wandering through the Arts & Crafts/Photos Exhibit and saw a framed front page. Upon getting closer to it I saw the banner "Daytona Beach Morning Journal". Sure enough, it was THE ISSUE--with a big color photo of the first owner Alexander Tweedie sitting in the 100 on the sands telling some kids all about the car!

Jim had it framed and on display FOR SALE, bearing DMH's signature to boot! I did not want, nor could I afford, the original but Jim was kind enough to make me two full-sized and plastic-coated copies. I sent one copy to the First Owner's widow, with whom I maintain correspondence, and have the other in my "Trophy Room".

Thanks again Jim.

Michael - Thank you for those kind words, perhaps when you get to be my age, you will have as much healey trivia in your basement also. It is funny that piece I obtained in the late 70's at Spring Carlisle. It was labeled 1957 Austin Healey, since I have a 57 BN4 Longbridge, I was certainly interested. When I unfolded the piece and saw it was a red 100 from Daytona, I could hardly believe my eyes. I had recently purchased my red 55 BN1, so I couldn't argue over the price, but simply paid the vendor what he had been asking.
Then back in 86 when Donald and Jerry Coker, were attending the 86 Encounter, I had him sign the piece. But you will note the signature is not the normal Donald Healey, but a rather scribble. But the signature is the real deal, since I have a photo of him signing the piece next to one of my 11 year old daughters at that time.
enough of history
