Yes, I've lost all my sense (again ...). What is the red car the couple are driving? About ten seconds in.

(Maybe I can squeeze it into the wood shed.)

That's a '60/'61 Skoda Octavio convertible.
Made in Czechoslovakia.
My Grandparents came from there also.

Thanks Doug. Skoda has a good reputation, but I'd bet parts are scarce as hen's teeth. And Octavias are probably impossible to find these days, except in trailer queen condition $$$.

hmmm

Thanks Doug. I've wondered about that one too. Looks nice.

Saw it on a TV commercial a few times, not sure what they were selling as looking at the car eliminated everything else! :encouragement:

It does look a bit more like a Borgward, although the grille of a Skoda is also similar. What I've noticed about non-car commercials is that the hide the name/logo of the car. There is one for an eye medicine where the car is a Jag convertible, but all the logos are removed or covered. I figured Jaguar would want a license fee. At first I thought Borgward and Skoda might not still be around, but they are.

They modified the grille. Borgwards had an emblem in the center of the grille. Good friend of mine had one - a gray station wagon. Good cr.

Good spot folks.
screen shot for future reference.
As an aside Skoda had a terrible reputation in the 1970’s and 80’s even worse than Uk cars.
but the rear engined Estelles were rallied.
they have become part of the VAG group so it used to be a way of buying a cheap VW or Audi
Not anymore they are a reliable brand in their own right.

Only European car of the era I'd had a bad experience with was a Simca. Convinced me of the saying that the words "French" and "engineering" were mutually exclusive, never to be used in the same sentence. šŸ˜

Without French cars, who would us British car owners look down on?

Hey, we owned two Simcas - 1204 four door wagon and a two door. Mos comfortable seats in any car we've owned. Aluminum cross flow head, front drive, disc brakes, coolant recovery system, torsion bar suspension, in excess of 32 mpg at 70mph. (Well down hill with a tail wind.) Then there's the tiny engine, a "magic wand" shifter. Loved both.

I agree. French cars are wonderfully quirky and have their own style. They are not the "best", but they have their niche. Comfort and yellow headlamps.

Who else can take a basket of eggs across a bumpy field? And accommodate a woman's hat?
