I need a rear tac drive armature for my generator. One that does not need rewound. New rewinds are a bit over a 100 bucks if you can find someone to do it.

I can get new bearings etc localy, but the rewind has me stumped.

Suggestions please.

Forgot to say if someone has extras I will be glad to purchase.

Have you have one rewound? Where? Who?
 
I don't know, Jack. I had my generator rebuilt locally, about $180. Pretty sure they had to do some work on the armature as well. I couldn't find anything cheaper.
 
My source in Calif, for all new inside is $194 guess that is what I will go with, even has a one year warenty.

I rooted around through the parts stash in the basement and found a tach drive generator. There is no pully or fan on it and I haven't checked the condition of the armature yet. The numbers on it are a diamond with an dash out of the left side 22265B !1 53 The ! represents a vertical line. The next line is C 9PV2 DA41 12V. Even after wire brushing some of the information was hard to read. Is this the correct one? Should I pull it down and check the armature.

The only reference that I can find to generator 22265B fits a 1953 Allard K3. The superceded # is listed for MG "Midget (TD) 1950-52.

I would expect, but don't know, nor how to find out, that the armature is all the same?? 12V rear tac drive.

Here is what fits:

1958-61 Austin Healey Spite 1962-69 Austin Healy Sprite,MKII, MKIII, MKIV. 1950-55 MG TD, TF. 1961-62 Midget

TD could be, as we had a British sports car establishment/junkyard in the 70's (The Barn) outside of Fairfax, VA. John sold most of what was left recently, as the land was sold to a developer. I picked through what was left and am storing it in my basement. There is no meter indication on the 2 meg ohm scale between the commutator and the shaft or core segments that the windings are on. On the 20 meg Ohm scale the meter reads around 15 meg ohm, but this is a hand held Scope DVM, so I wouldn't be alarmed by this reading. The reading is around 3 Ohms between the commutator segments. I cleaned up the commutator and it appears to have been cut sometime in the past. It is so nice I would just polish with crocus cloth and use as is. More messages to follow.

Commutator does look excellent. Your field tests seem ok as well. Wonderful. Mine has melted wires and needs a rewind. Fields are ok though.

Memorizing the streets in order to be able to pass my Engine drivers exam. One of my hobbies is to run into burning buildings.
