Generator to alternator conversion

Ok, Since it looks like I may need a new generator, or to at least rebuild mine, where can I find info on converting to an alternator? I have thought about it in the past but wanted to stay stock. Does it also change the volt regulator?

I do plan on rebuilding my generator, but want to see this as well.

Hi VR, Dave Russel and others have posted schematics for wiring the alternators up. The alternator contains its own regulator and the control box fuctionally is not required. Look around in the archives the data is not too old---Keoke

I did some searching last nite on the forum, did find an article or 2. I came across the website with the kit, and I came across a cal rebuild place as well. I may try to keep the generator first as I don't have any other electrical items to run.

The conversion is always a personal decision between originality and reliability. If you're not running many accessories there's a lot to be said for keeping the car original. That said, both my LBCs have alternators (with the generators safely stored in the attic for reinstallation later).

If you decide to convert the car, there are ways to make the change clean and reversible and I'd think with a Healey, keeping the changes reversible would be better for your investment.
