… Boeing builds aircraft that are way
more complicated than cars and you don’t hear of repeated trips by airlines back to the factory to fix the planes they bought.…

Boeing’s products are operated by some of the most highly trained, highly skilled professionals of any industry, anywhere.

Boeing’s customers have armies of engineers and technicians on staff 24/7-365.

Boeing’s products’ critical operational systems are triple-redundant but are also inspected and serviced after every use.

Boeing’s products are complex because they have to be to work at all but they put the support structure in place to deal with it at a cost that’s reasonable for their customers.

Also we're talking cars vs. planes.
If you have a problem with a 747,you don't just ease it to the curb, like you could with a car.

I'm just saying that in comparision to an aircraft, a car isn't that complex so not resolving engineering problems and having differing levels of quality in parts is something that should not occur at the levels they do.

Increased complexity always brings increased opportunities for problems.

Aircraft are complex. They've always been complex. Everyone who's involved with them expects them to be complex and is prepared to deal with it. The theory and practice of dealing with large, complex systems was pioneered in the aerospace industry.

The car industry is different. The technical sophistication of the consumer is lower than ever (I know people that have the dealer install windshield wipers). The technical level of the installed service network may have increased incrementally (although with everybody I know complaining of bad service I think many would argue that there's a severe decrease there). Yet cars today are massively more complex than they were a few years ago.

When you hear American auto execs say things like "We're not in the car business, we're in the fashion business and we make cars." or ""We're not in the car business, or the truck business, we're committed to the personal-mobility business." you can see how much emphasis they put on thorough engineering.
