Gearbox parts for 1275

After checking hydraulic, it looks like my third gear synchro is bad. I am able to change up from 2nd to third gingerly without issue, but from forth to third I get a horrible grinding noise. I have been changing from forth to second to minimize damage. I guess I have a couple of options, look for a good used gearbox, fix this or buy a refurbished one. I thought I would check if the syncro's can be sourced from anywhere. I see that Moss and VB list these as NA.
Thanks,
Allan

It could be that just the synchro ring is bad on 3rd gear. Once you get the transmission out, and with the cover off, you can look at the 3rd gear synchro and see if it is just the ring (cone) or it is part of the 3rd. gear synchro teeth that is worn. The cones are available, but the entire 3rd gear assembly is very, very rare. If you need more than just the cones (transmission has thre which are all the same), then I would suggest trying to find a good running gearbox, or have one rebuilt. What I have found out the hard way is do not try to mix and match gears, cluster gears, and such from various sources. I replaced most everything in it, and it made a terrible gear noise in all the indirect gears. Cheers,
Good luck,

Are we talking smooth case or rib case? What you describe applies to smooth case only. Cones in rib case are integral to gear casting. The only thing you can really tell with the cover off is whether the clearance is within tolerance or negligible.

All the baulk rings in a rib case are the same and good ones can be swapped from another gearbox. You need to be careful about new replacements.
