Gearbox Oil Seal

Hi Guys,

I traced a leak in my gearbox (3000 BJ8) to the horizontal slide shaft of the gear selector. How difficult is it to replace the round oil seal on this horizontal shaft? Any "got ya's"?

NAA, just remove the gearbox top [ Item 30 ] and you will see how to replace the little seal----Keoke

Thanks for the reply. Do I need to remove the shift lever first or does all that lift off with the top as a unit?

All that lifts off with the top as a unit and can be dismantled on the bench.---Keoke

I have the AH manual, but they didnt make it out to be that easy.

Keoke, or other members, do you have any pictures of the gearbox cover removed? Pictures of the underside?

Hello Keoke,

Finally got around to replacing the gear shift oil seal today. The hardest part was removing the small seal without damaging the side of the casing. The little booger was hard to remove, but finally got it out. Installing the new one required using a socket to ensure that the seal went in straight and not on an angle and also some silicon spray.
