Gearbox up-date!!!

I just finished installation of my slightly rebuilt main and input shafts. I had to tear down and reassemble the main shaft about 20 times to get it right. During one of my tear downs, I chipped 2 teeth of the first gear. Luckily, the noble and generous Jolly Roger donated an old Spitfire gearbox to the cause and I was able to extract another good first gear from it. Have you ever noticed how rust makes things really hard to take apart?

Thanks for keeping me honest guys...

Re: Gearbox up-date!!!

Rust and corrosion are a pain indeed.

Re: Gearbox up-date!!!

Notice ~I~ was NOT the one to do that. Coulda been, even thought about it.... odd... I took the moral high ground.

...I'll try not to let it happen again; It was a sudden lapse in judgement. I'd hate to see Jeff have to bear the burden alone. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Who says I can't learn from my mistakes.

I usually don't, but it is possible.

Re: Gearbox up-date!!!

Gear box is complete and ready to install!!! (and explode the first time I take the car out, I am sure)

This the first time I have ever "rebuilt" a gearbox, so I am feeling a bit insecure...

Re: Gearbox up-date!!!

...and why does it "jingle" like that when ya tilt it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Plug-n-play, buddy, plug-n-play!!!

What was that extra screw for?

You don't know how true that statement is.

To finish my tran, I had to tear down and steal from another tran.

So I am standing in front of my work bench looking at the completed tran and a pile of parts and aksing myself, "was that thrust washer from the good tran or the junk one??????"

Re: Gearbox up-date!!!

And Jim, from your earlier posts it sounds like you'll be doin' an "exploratory" on that box you've got there. Save up fast: I gotta go to th' baffroom!
