gear shifter rattle

The gear shifter rattles in my newer 66 Sprite. It doesn't do it in my first 66 Sprite.

Is there any known cause for this, or easy cure?

I'm running the original rubber shift knobs and they're tight. The rattling sounds internal to the transmission at the mounting point.

Thanks for any info!

Do you ave the little nylon cup and spring at the bottom of the lever? Compare the 2 lever assemblies.

Items 57 and 58 are anti rattle spring and plunger. They are accessible from the top under the shift boot by removing the thread cap or when you remove the shift lever. There is also a spring, cup, and o-ring at the bottom of the shift lever, items 59,60, and 61.

This is from the Moss site.

Just be real careful when you pull the shifter handle out that nothing sticks to it upon retraction and then falls into the transmission. Happens often if you aren't careful.
