TR2/3/3A Gear shift knob

Wondering if this is an original knob for a TR3A or has anyone else come across a knob like this before. ?? Wondering if it’s rare or not. Can get it re plated for around $50

Never seen one like that before.

It is not original as in stock from the factory. They were a hard rubber. It is likely an after market part.

This is just a vague recollection, so take it with a grain of salt! But literally 60 years ago, I bought a 5 year old 1957 TR3, and I think it had a similar shift knob. When I first heard the typical shift lever rattle, I thought the metal knob might be the cause! Will be curious to see if you get better verification.

I think it was made by Amco, major supplier of after market accessories. I had one in the 60s

I know Amco made a knob like below, that you could get in chrome, wood or leather. I have not seen one with the extended ring around the perimeter like the one shown. If you look in the back pages of early 60s car magazines, everybody and their brother seemed to have a cottage industry of making accessories for British sports cars back then. Maybe Amco made this style too way back when, but there were lots of companies in the accessory market.

I am pretty sure that mine was the same shape as the one pictured in the first posting. My car. a 1960 TR3A (and purchased in 1962), seemed to be a rolling example of all the accessories that AMCO made. It had the gear shift knob, tubular grill, front&rear bumper guards, door panel protectors, and battery box liner.

A shifter knob like that would have been on a 1920s or 30s vehicle certainly not from a TR2-3 or 3A.
